RX-8 for a first car?

As soon i looked at the RX-8 i fell in love with it. It has great looks and performs great too (on paper, never drove it). Are you guys satisfied with this car? Any problems that occur frequently? Any tips for me?

thanx in advance.

Great car but not sure if I would reccommend for the first car.. I would get something cheap just in case u come into any accidents.. I would hate to see an 8 crashed from a young driver. Also it isn't the cheapest car to afford as car payments, insurance, gas etc...... I would learn on something cheaper then when u feel ur ready go for the 8.

get a 240, u will enjoy it if ur still in highschool and save ur cash for when u graduate to college for something nice. the 240 likes to swing it's rear and u should be able to learn all about controlling RWD with it. and i don't know about u, i like the look of it =D

Yup, 240 is a nice cheap alternative. It's got a decent chassis, RWD, and it's cheap as chips to buy and maintain.

Nobody is a very good driver after 1 year of driving...u may not have tickets or accidents but that doesn't mean u are very good...it takes many years to become a great driver no matter who the person is

just dont drive it like a jackass like i did. if you do, you can become quickly acquainted with how much a replacement telephone pole costs. in my experience, most of my friends had some sort of accident or ding on their first car. im 19 now, got the 8 like 14 months ago.

That's the problem right there!

You don't contol accidents. Many people are like you but get dents in parking lots or people crashing into them while parked.

I have put in a lot of miles over the past three years, and I love driving, so the 8 was a natural pick as my first car. Before then I drove my parent's cars and when I was in Germany I drove my friend's Fiat, lol, that was fun.

I don't know how old you are, but if you are serious about having a nice car, then the 8 is a good pick for a first, or for life .

i say start off cheap then roll with the big boys, and like many people said skills come with experience no matter how many accidents u had or not. You may also be a great driver on the track, but driving in public is a different story.

I say go mazda 3 great beginners cars.

Why would you ask , everyone is going to have different opinions. It's your call make it . If you can afford it , gas money , insurance then go for it. Only you know your situation.....................

Good Luck........

oh my goodness, here we go with the "older" forum members bashing young drivers. Guys, RX8s have depreciated and theres going to be young drivers, accept it. I think the RX8 is a phenomenal first sports car as long as the driver is responsible, regardless of age. Im 19 and I havent had an accident and I have 1 ticket for 10 over. I bought this car on my own seeing as how I make 60K+ a year, and no not at daddies job with daddies money. Im not bragging but my point is to not stereotype, there are responsible young drivers. With that said the RX8 was my first sports car and Ive had it for 2 years next month. Been good to me, a lot of problems but Mazda took care of me, not really anything out of pocket ever and the problems oddly enough were only between 30-50K miles and now they stopped. Id recommend this car all day to responsible people as a first car, regardless of age.

It's not bashing...statistically speaking you're more likely to get into an accident if you're younger (due to inexperience). Of course, this doesn't mean that EVERY young person will get into an accident. I think it's good advice to gain some driving experience first with a less powerful car.

Driving is like anything in the world that requires skill. It takes a while to become good at it. Did you jump right into the deep end when you first started learning to swim?

With a less powerful car, you reduce the amount of damage you can do to yourself and to others while still obtaining that invaluable driving experience. Not to mention reducing the temptation to do something with the car that's beyond your skill level.

I agree with you, but I guess I look deeper than that. Although the RX8 is more powerful, its also much safer. For example, Im not shy to admit I did stupid things in my RX8 when I first got it. But when I did go outside of my "skill level" the car saved my ***. For example, one time (and it was the last time I ever did this) I was going at a speed that was ridiculously high showing off to friends (130mph+) and a car cut me off, the RX8's brakes saved me in that situation. If I had been in a modded 240SX, it probably wouldve handled that situation differently. See what Im saying, the RX8 is built for you to mess up, thats why the suspension is so forgiving and the brakes will stop from 60 in <120ft. All I am saying is the RX8 is a great handling car with 175 whp. So its not a monster for a first sports car. Everyone has their own opinions I guess and Ill admit Im a little biased because Im a young owner.

would you have done that if you were driving a '97 4-door Toyota corolla? (Can it even hit 130 mph?? )

My 8 is my first car, but you must understand that cars like this are very dangerous and you have to think about whether you are responsible enough to handle a car like this.

One of my best friends and his passenger died a little over two months ago due to speeding in his 350Z. These cars may be fun, but they have the power to destroy lives if you aren't responsible enough.

No but If I was topping out at 94 mph in the 97 Corolla and I got cut off I would have *** packed them and rolled 12 times off a mountainside guardrail into oblivion
