I work for my dad, that does not make my money any different than yours! You are complaining about older drivers complaining about younger drivers and at the same time you are bashing those who who are young, have an 8, and don't make 60 thousand a year all on their own. Why don't you tell me how many reliable ways an 18 or 19 year old can make 60k. Not every 18/19 year old can afford a car the way you do.

Thanks for advocating for younger drivers though

scenario 1

a young 16/17/18 kid just got a license ...daddy promise to buy a rx8 ....first time driving ...save and reliable ....

2 weeks later ...show off to friends ...friends bring their 1980 century corolla ....
being young and want to have fun , they say "HEY , LETS RACE"

corolla hit 60-70 max (probably , no idea ) ...stopped coz he know he could not catch up = safe
rx8 hit 130 ....rx8 win ...skids , spins , and crashes due to driving too fast and have no experience on how to counter it = NOT safe ...probably will get a coffin as the next ITEM to buy

hehe ...just for fun of imagination ~~
but overall , it all depends ON THE DRIVER ~ nothing to do with the car ...

As the Corolla driver approaches the accident, they get T-boned by a rubbernecker who ran a red light, and sadly they could have been saved if the car had been equipped with modern safety equipment.

It's all about mitigating your risks - I'd rather have a car with all the capabilities and safety equipment, even if it is fast enough to do some serious damage. In the 8, I have a higher probability of both avoiding AND surviving an accident than I would have in a junker. I'd go with the 8 and just know to keep the driving well within my own limitations.

A car is only as safe as the Driver, and the people around them.

I would say the 8 is one of the safest cars out there, but it is also the kind of car that you can easily be going faster than you realize. So you have to be careful. Also the limits of this car are insane, but like anything, once pushed past the limit can be dangerous. I would recommend it as a Daily but like all cars, be careful.

Funny story, when I first got the Altima, I took it to work, it needed tires, and I tried an evasive maneuver on wet road, I found out that my car didn't have ABS... the hard way lol. At least with the 8, you have so many features that it will help a lot.

Yeah but if you want a rwd sports car i think this may be the best for experienced or inexperienced drivers (as far as imports) simply because of the drivability, this car will forgive you in nearly any mistake due to the suspension. But overall I think of course it is expensive and you will be mad/sad when something happens to it but that will be with any car (expensive or inexpensive). So if you can afford it and you are open to the small maintenance differences then make the decision based off of the competition and your preference.

My tip for you is, use the search button before you ask any other questions. Because all the questions you might have, have been asked before, and have been given answers. There is no reason for us to post the same answers, every day of the week.

I don't see why it SHOULDN'T be a first car, but only for specific types of people.

The fact is that even if it isn't as powerful as a porsche it's almost as flashy and you are going to feel just as flashy IN it. The tendency to show off is almost overwhelming at times, and if it is your first car you have to be sure not only to know the car but to know yourself, your own limitations and how to control yourself and resist your peers.

As long as you are safe with it, have the money, and don't mind seeming fairly spoiled, I suppose there is no reason not to get an RX-8.

I think you should get something cheap and reliable such as an old Altima, Civic, or Accord. Trust me I know you want a fast car now, and I know you won't believe me when I say this, but when you look back on your life 5 years down the road you won't regret not having a sports car at 16 or 17. Not all kids are the same but if I had an RX8 when I was 17 I would probably be dead.

I would like to thank everyone for their replies..
I'm totally not into the whole racing and showing off the my friends thing.
I like the RX-8 for the fact it looks nice and it can perform well.
I believe when it comes to driving im responsible. i mean i guess yes im only a teen, but im always mature at serious stuff.

When it comes to damage and gas.. umm my dad is pretty much supportive in the financial issues. not prude of it... but yet, im not dumb to not take the offering in my age were i can't afford many stuff by my own. He offered me other cars like 350z, G35, and the IS. All of em are around the same price range... but this car is the only car i can see myself in for some reason.

I wasnt intentionally bashing 18/19 yr olds. I got my 8 when I was a senior and I was 17. My dad and I split the down payment (5K) and I worked two jobs (8.50hr) to afford my 371 per month payment and pay my insurance. I was making an example of myself. I have nothing against any young'ns in this forum who are driving an RX8 their dad/mom bought for them. I think that if your family is that well off than good for you, nothing wrong with that! My well off dad helped me! I was just saying that just bc someone is 17-20 driving an RX8 doesnt mean theyre a spoiled lil ***** thats going to drive like a moron. Theres alot of irresponsible people in this age group with RX8s, but not all are. That was the point I was trying to convey.

Man, let me tell you the RX8 will by far be the most FUN out of all the above!! Its fast, flashy, unique, and has the 4 doors/seats!! Some of my best memories in high school/college were in this car!! Youll have a blast in it bro I promise.

PS: I went to a car auction looking for a 350Z and drove home in an RX8, no comparison and Ive extensively test driven 350Z's/G35's ( I worked at a Nissan/Mazda/Audi/VW/Mercedes dealership. Theyre faster, but trust me the RX8 blows it away in every other categorie. Hopefully we can welcome you to the addiction soon!

Then i bought a s13 thought me a lot of characteristics how to drive a fwd and rwd. Now i drive an 8 and really appreciate its capabilities. I suggest the same path Fwd and then Rwd and then the 8. and by then its the 09'+ 8's. Good luk ohh by the way is there any meets in so cal any time soon! thnx guys

i like some other got my car when i was younger. the biggest thing really is the driver. a dumb driver will kill them selves in a beater or an rx8. if you are a responsible person and can take care of the car as well as yourself then the rx8 is a great car. it has 8 airbags iirc and an outstanding braking system that contribute to a pretty safe car. it gets a whole lot less safe if you try racing or try to show off. i got the 8 after driving a durango for a while and i really have enjoyed the car. i just try to steer clear of doing dumb stuff.

The RX8 does not require any higher level of maturity than any other car. If you're ready for a car, you're ready for a car period. It's just a car and carries with it the same general principles as driving anything else.

It was my first car, and was surprised at its break-free limit in wet conditions, so I switched to eagle f1 all season tires. Problem solved.

I totally disagree. Cars like the 8 inspire more confidence than say, a 98 Altima. It's pretty easy to tell the limits of the Altima and is a huge deterrent for attempting stupid maneuvers on public roads. An Altima doesn't have much power and has tremendous understeer (AKA the car isn't fun to drive).

Now a fun car like the 8 is what can get some people into trouble. It's fairly quick, revs very high, has very good grip, and has oversteer on demand. Someone who had the 98 Altima (not in reference to me, but....) cool be a perfectly normal driver. Then they get behind the wheel of an 8, and all kinds of crazy **** goes through their head.

You make a good case, but there's a difference between being a really responsible driver and just being someone in a car that isn't capable of doing anything dangerous or encouraging to drive at the limit.

I'm 19 and have had my 8 for just about a year... My first car was a silverado, so i guess you can say truck. It was rwd... and I definitely preferred it as my first car. I had an accident in it because I didn't know how to control it in a fishtail, which is common for rwd cars on slippery surfaces. Take driving classes if you get an 8 for your first car. Learn how to drive it, getting trained by professionals. Thats my advice. I love my 8, and just like you, I had chances to get other cars, but I got the 8 because it's an amazing machine that fits me and my style.

I believe when it comes to driving im responsible. i mean i guess yes im only a teen, but im always mature at serious stuff.
now when i say this i dont say this is how you will be, but i got my 8 with i was 16 and loved it. before i got it i told others why do you have to tell me i am goin to speed and be reckless, cause i drive fine and dont have the urge to drive fast now so why then when i am in that car. well when i got it i felt much different. i felt like i had to show off and loved to do it even though half the people i would do it to thought i was a dumb *** but i still loved to drive fast.

I cant even count how many times i have takin the 8 past 135-140. I got my first ticket for speeding and changing lanes in to on coming traffic(sounds bad but i was 7 over and the cop thought the car coming was to close when i passed on a 2 lane road,2 months after i got the 8), then 3 weeks ago(4 months of driving) i got a ticket for racing(95 what he clocked me at,i dont know how cause i was doing 125, with 2 other cars) and i have not wrecked it but have come close, and after my 2nd ticket i have been driving normal.

honestly i love the car and want nothing else except a ferrari maybe , but i sometimes wish i didn't have it cause it gets me in to trouble cause its so fun to drive fast.

just saying that just because you don't think you wont drive fast now don't mean you wont when you get caught up in the moment. and yes there are prob 1230948 people that will tell me, "your wrong thats its just me and not him", and yes i am not saying he will be like me, just giving my story..
