Wait, 7000rpm in 4th = 72? I found 72 being right around redline in 2nd...lol...Maybe I was already in 3rd when I actually looked down :O I'll find out later tonight, haha!

I'm 23 and have had the car since april, got it as a graduation gift to myself (CEE... Man there are a lot of engineers in this place... LOL). I will admit that I drive kinda fast more often than not (80+ daily, and 150+ one saturday morning...), and I tailgate frequently (what can I say, slow moving traffic aggrevates me...), so I may not be the best example of responsible driving even though i've never been in an accident in the 5 years I've been driving.
The 4 doors do wonders for insurance (approximately $3066/year with full coverage on my own insurance), and the looks will break necks and make panties drop from hood to hood and block to block... Like it was stated earlier, be really careful where you park.
I'd go for it if I were you. If you can afford it, u won't regret it...

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for the RX-8 now. I'm still going to test dive the Mazda3, just so I see what I'm missing, but it will probably be the 8 in the end.
Now to focus on getting a good deal...

I was in almost exactly the same position when I got my 8. I'm 21, and got my 8 this spring. I think my insurance is something like 1800 a year. USAA is awesome.
You won't regret getting this car
