RX-8 - Great Musician Car!

I have had my RX-8 for a few months now but it really got put to the test when I had a club gig to play this past weekend.

Turns out the RX-8 trunk has the perfect dimesions to swallow TWO 1 speaker combo amps (one Fender and one Ampeg) with 2 bags of cables and accessories on each side

As a matter of fact, if only carrying one amp, the low indent of the trunk actually fits the Ampeg like a suit!

In the back seat, I loaded in FIVE guitars in soft cases, laying them across the seats. On top of the guitars, I was able to fit in a wide 5-guitar stand.

With all this gear, I was still able to have my daughter, acting as "Roadie", riding shotgun in the front passenger seat.

The RX-8 proves itself to really be a PRACTICAL sports car in these type of situations!
:D

Hooray for another person who USES the space in the car instead of COMPLAINING about it!

very nice. but i'd have to say most impressive i've seen is an entire drum set in a 92 integra, with driver and passenger (single kick drum, double pedal).

i still get a kick out of people saying that the back seat isn't usable...then i show them :D

Yes, the low indent in the trunc actually fits a small ("roll-on") suitcase very well.
My RX-8 is the *first* car where my suitcase is not bumping from side to side in every
twisty of the road...

Ya the trunk is fine for carrying smaller amps. When I load up, I put my lLIne 6 combo and pedal board in there along with my gable bag. I only have hard caes for my guitars so I put on e in each of the back seats....it works fine.

I like the trunk depression. It hold this in there from moving about.

Yeah - it was great driving up to load up, and see the other musicans saying "damn, look at that car"

Then, watching their jaws drop as amp after amp, guitar after guitar, goes in :D

It really is amazing how much the RX-8 can hold when you utilize the space efficiently. I remember trying to get one guitar in a Miata once...it wasn't easy!

Trunk's great, if you fold 'em up real nice you can fit about 3-4 bodies in it. Not to mention the back seat...

Yeah, I think the rear seating in the RX-8 had more room (at least more legroom) than my new Volvo S40 has!

I'm moving house.

I found out i can cary 2 cartons in the trunk (after removing the spacesaver spare) and 2 cartons on each back seat with an extra smaller sized one on the centre console between the others (if it's not too heavy).

Unfortunately, my keyboards are too big for the trunk. If I de-case them, I can lay them out in the back seats, but that isn't a good solution.
I usually drive the Miata with the roof open and leave the cases sticking up high in the airstream from the front seats. That is, when I need to move them on my own for some reason, which is rare.

My guitars, however, fit sideways in the trunk perfectly.
I'm using SKB "Freedom" cases on both the strat-body TA and the LP.
I don't lug around amps. That is what the roadies are for.
If I still had to move my own gear a couple of times every week, I would have moved on to a different gig years ago.

people are always like, your car is soooo small, you can't fit anything in there. little do they know, I once packed my entire dorm room into a honda civic coupe, I am a master at packing efficiency.

I'm guessing you don't have the spare tire kit, because I can hardly fit a suitcase in my trunk. The back seats are good for caring stuff though, when I put my winter tires on I was wondering how I was going to get my summer tires home. I managed to fit all 4 of them in the back seats no problem, two in each seat. I thought I was going to have to make two trips to pick them up from the shop.
