RX-8 or GTI

RX-8 or GTI
Ive been thinking about the VW GTI, the MkV (2006-2008) one... I was thinking if i should trade in my RX-8 for it... The reason i am thinking about the GTI is because its 4 seaters, you can get 2 or 4 door, its a 2.0 turbo, DSG gearbox, and its about the same or even faster than the RX-8, if you mod it up. Please tell me your opinions.
MkV GTI ($20K - $25K [depending on options/package])
- 2.0 Turbo
- 4/5 seaters
- lots of cargo
- nice styling
- fast as RX-8, faster if modded.
- same price as RX-8.
RX-8 ($21K - $23K)
- Rotary...
- 4 seater
- not as much cargo
- sporty styling
- fast as GTI, or possibly faster/slower.
- Same price as GTI.

Please tell me whats wrong with comparing the 2? They are both 4 seaters, both similar in performance, one japanese and one german. Act mature please.

my sister has an the 07 VW
I have the 07 RX8
They are both nice cars but they are in two different classes. The RX8 is more of a sportscar. Has better handeling and more appealing look.
My 8 is faster than her VW.

GIi: Ugly, underpowered, front wheel drive, fuel efficient
RX-8: Hot, underpowered, rear wheel drive, gas hog
Cost to fix lack of power: RX-8 > GTi
...if you don't care about looks, get an ugly FAST car that handles well like an STi or Evo

im not sure if youre referring to the new body GTIs but the old ones are definitely weaker than rx8s. kinda went against one on the freeway yesterday (05 body) and it wasnt really keeping up. im no street racer but he was asking for it

why not test drive both yourself and make your own decision instead of letting some stranger from hundreds/thousands of miles away telling you what to get.

GTI ? are you kidding me ?
I test drove a 07 earlier this year when my friend was getting her Rabbit. That car has torque that I wish my Rx-8 has, but its NOWHERE near the performance of my almost bone stock Rx-8.
It accelerate seems fast, but its just the torque made me feel fast, I was waiting for the tach to go up but it didnt, turbo kicked in around maybe 2900 rpm.
and as soon as I hit the first corner @ 60 mph ... omg , I almost lose control, maybe Im too used to 50/50 weight or maybe the stock rubber on that GTI sucks or maybe just because that was the *first corner* ... second time it was alright, kinda got used to it. but its handling is still not as sharp as Rx8 (not bad tho)
There was a GTI who tried to race me, couple months ago, tailgate my *** I didnt do anything ... then he just cut my car from my left, got me ****, and I speed up a bit to go after him, he tried to lose me cuz I know he was going full throttle, but just let him be and he cant get rid of me, finally he seems gave up then I just past him in 3rd gear. I looked at the window gave him a *face*, that dude was some 16 yr old who probably just got his license and car from his mommy.
GTI is more for wannabe racer
Rx8 is for people who knows how to drive.
I put my 0.02 down, its your call now.

It's not silly to compare the two. Both appeal to car nuts who enjoy fun-to-drive cars. I had an '02 GTI 337 Edition, and test drove the new GTI before I bought my 8.
Biggest difference is RWD vs FWD. The 8 is much better balanced. Lighter, more agile, quick on its feet, and "talks to you" better than the GTI, which kind of isolates you, and feels heavy compared to the 8.
Interiors are very different. GTI is a bit more luxurious—nicer plastics, nicer seats. But comparing interiors is comparing apples and oranges: in the GTI you sit upright, German style, and look out through huge windows with a big greenhouse effect. The 8 is more the sports car; you sit low, and the side windows are mere slits compared to the GTI. The GTI interior is bright and open; the 8 is dark and cozy.
In utility, the GTI wins hands down. With the rear seat folded forward, it'll swallow pretty much anything you have to carry. But the 8 is surprising in this regard; with the front passenger seat all the way forward, you can fit a surprising amount of stuff back there, and you can load it easily without any 'B' pillar to get in the way.
GTI wins on fuel economy, and it's also easy to mod. Both cars are very good, long distance highway cruisers. But make no mistake—the 8 is The Driver's Car. Great feel and balance, much better than the GTI. Engines? The GTI is, of course, very torquey—but, for me, the smoothness and 9K redline of the 8 is sublime. The GTI is probably faster, but the RX-8… is better.

All I have to say to this thread is Just test drove one this weekend, other then the feeling of actual torque the handling did not compare. Now if I never drove my 8 then I would thing it was a great car. Don'ty get me wrong it was a nice drive, my wife like it, but just in a different class.

When I was buying my 8, the dealership had some GTI's he was trying to sell me instead and his demo of quality was hanging on the door like a monkey saying "NOW THIS IS A DOOR".
