^ selective reasoning again eh? You found the two fastest GTI tests and ignored atleast 4 others that all showed high 14's (14.7,14.8,14.9,14.9) and 94mph traps. MOST tests of the 8 show 14.4-14.6 96 mph traps. Oh, and with the benefit of launch control, the GTI actually has very similar 0-60 times (6-6.2), negating your argument.
If you're as balanced as you claim to be, why not mention that the 8 was way faster (like 8 seconds a lap if I remember correctly) when both were compared on the C&D lightening lap.

The GTI doesn't have launch control in North America, but nice try... I've seen more than one magazine run 15s's with an RX-8, I don't see you posting those. So suddenly 6-6.2 is very similar to the 5.9 0-60 that the RX-8 usually gets when it runs 14.5, but when I say the GTI is close to the RX-8 because they commonly trap within 1mph of one another have their best 1/4 mile times are within .1 of one another I'm using selective reasoning and am wrong.
I will never cure you of your faboiitis so lets just forget this little episode ever happened. The RX-8 is clearly faster than the GTI, happy?

I'm sure you have a cute little street racing story that you've dreamt up for just about every car on the road. However, lets stick to reality here.

Huh? I never said they weren't close, but YOU said the GTI was faster on the highway and you have yet to prove it. I can refer to 10 RX8 tests from the major mags and only C&D ran an 8 at 15 flat (on a very green engine), but 7 of those tests were 14.6 or better. We now know of 6 GTI tests and they only ran a 14.6 or better twice out of 6 tries.
Stop trying to hard to be an ***, I betcha it'll come naturally.

"Nah, the RX-8 and the GTI are pretty damn close and the GTI MAY be a little faster on the highway."
"Considering the GTI always has a slower 0-60 time than RX-8s that run the same times it's not exactly a stretch to think the GTI is a touch faster from a roll. I don't know, maybe it is maybe it isn't but it's close "

Agreed.
+1
These kids have no clue how fast the Sti/Evo's are. They see a few videos and here couple stories of GTI's beating them and all of the sudden they think they can do the same on bolt ons/ and a friggin chip. In its class the GTI is king in acceleration. Be happy with that. They cannot begin to challenge AWD powerhouses like Evo/Sti with only bolt ons and a chip. Lets get real

I can't believe I read 4 pages of this BS.
If some of you want the thread closed, why are you posting???
The VW is a good car. The RX-8 is a good car. From what I hear, the Prius is a good car and the Legacy is a good car.
Buy what you meets your needs and desires. I bought an 8 because I love the rotary engine, don't care about MPG, think the car is sex on wheels and loved the way it drove. If I valued gas mileage, rattle-free German engineering, and hauling capacity over the others, I would have bought a GTI, or an R32, or an Infinity G35....

Ok, Ill be mature about this. Ive driven a VW GTi with some factory mods ( reflash, catback, intake) and It had alot of torque as well as torque steer. I still didnt feel is was faster than my RX8, and it wasnt near as fun to drive. In my opinion, the GTi isnt that attractive and it looks to similar to a rabbit. The GTi is a turbod Rabbit with Leather that runs high 14's. The RX8 on the other hand, is much more attractive and fun to drive. If you know how to launch, shift, and demolish your clutch, the RX8 blows the doors off a GTi (trust me I know
) As far as reliability, my RX8 hasnt been that reliable but the GTis arent much better. But sports cars are high maintnence, deal with it. Thats my take on the GTi vs. RX8

There are no factory mods... Also, you did not drive an MKV that had 'alot of torque steer', you're full of it. Say all the bad thing you want about the new GTI, but torque steer is not something that is a problem with it. Also, there are no doors being blown off, the GTI is damn close in speed. I've driven both of them (from a non biased perspective) and they're both spectacularly mediocre in the speed department.
