Angry The RX-8 looks fast when its not...

In an earlier thread I was talking about how I got pulled over by two different cops when I wasn't speeding. Some people told me that this is refered to as exhibition of speed. I was very mad about all this confusion so I went to the cops house. She lives down the street from me.

I talked to her and it turned out to be a very good talk. She answered all my questions and she was VERY nice. :D She explained to me that there are two types of speeding tickets.

There is "General Speed" which is when the cops actually clock you with their radar. Then there is "Exhibition of Speed" which there is no measurement of your speed. An example is you driving by a gas station the cop is parked at.

Anyway, my story gets even better. We eneded up talking about cars, suvs, accidents, and all that stuff. She said she loved the RX-8, so I offered to take her out in it.

We went out and I showed her house it revs VERY high and I explained the rotary engine to her. I drove around with the windows down. Everytime she guessed the speed, it was accurate or higher.

Next, I drove around with the windows up. Now all of her estimates were lower. They were even lower on smoother roads such as the highway and especially when the music was turned up to 15 or higher.

Once we got back to the neighborhood, I had her stand on the side of the street and I went around the block and came back. I went the same speed I was going the night she stopped me. She said it looked like I was goin fast, but since she had just been in the car with me, she realized it really isn't.

She admitted to being fooled my the agressive look of the 8 and the screaming rotary sound. :D She also apologized for stopping me, but I wasn't even expecting an apology.
I think overall it was a good experience and I am glad she stopped me or this would have never taken place.

Now I know for sure the car looks like its going fast when it isn't and feels like its going slow when its actually going FAST!!! :p

Nope, I never had one to begin with. She just gave me a mean look and said if she ever caught me speeding again, she would give me one. Shes actually a Sheriff. :D
It bothered me a lot even though it was only a warning. Thats why I walked down there. I felt like I had REALLY been wronged because I knew I wasn't speeding. I admit I have before and I asked her if she had seen me speeding before. She said that was the first time. I assumed at first she had seen me speed before and she was tired of seeing it happen, but that wasn't the case.

Great story, Jasin. Sounds like both of you learned something. And props for having the both the guts to follow up and, I suspect, the poise to make your point in a way that was productive. Very impressive at your age.

Damn dude, 16 and you walk up to cops house and tell here I'll prove to you that I'm not speeding. My local car club at one time got alot of beef from cops just cause of the types of cars we drove, same kind of situation, we made it a point though to get to know them anmd show them we aren't so bad, at least not when they are looking. We went down to the local PD got to know most of the guys introduced ourselves, at least some of us cause there are lots of people in the club, told them our situation, spoke to vice and got to know most of them and now we get along pretty well. There still is the ocassional car that will follow you around waiting for you to speed, what I do is go just fast enough to keep their attention but too slow to get a ticket and lead them all around town and burn up there gas, it's hilarious.

Thanks. My dad taught me to always follow up. I especially learned that not all cops are mean. Most of them have good intentions. She said the main reason she stopped me is because she didn't want to see my wrapped around a pole one day. I totally respect that, but it was also good that she learned that looks can be decieving. It would be nice if more people were aware of that. It is kind of similar to trains except trains have the opposite effect. They are so big that it looks like they are going slow, but they are actually moving fast. Lots of learning going on here! :D

I bet they get mad. I was nervous at first, but now I am glad I went. I told her about the board and how we like to rev our cars. I told her it wasn't fair that we were getting stopped for not actually speeding. Now she wants an 8 too. She said she liked mine and had seen it before, but she had kids. She didn't know it was 4 seats or 4 doors! So she bought an SUV.

When I was 16 I wanted to bang many of my friends' moms. Add in the fact that she's a cop, and she's got handcuffs...PLUS she likes the 8...wow. I would seduced her if I was you. She sounds like she wants to bone.

Speaking on behalf of cops, I am impressed with this young man. BUT, I am MORE impressed that a 16 year old is driving an 8. Dont tell my 16 year old son, who is still waiting to get the keys from dad!! Hey Shaolin, get your mind out of the gutter!! FOCUS on the car!!

I'm going to buy a 15 year old beater that doesn't look like it could go fast and speed all over the place.

I get the same thing in my neighborhood...just not with the cops. I'll be cruising at 25mph with the top down and some idiot will yell, "SLOW DOWN!!!". Then I whip around and give them a good talking to about how I wasn't speeding and how ignorant they are...looks are very deceiving. I like to call that prejudice...

I try to avoid parking in public areas for fear of finding an Exhibition of Speed citation under the wiper.

That reminds me of the Celica commercials. I dont know if Celicas really hav that impression, but I sure hope Mazda comes out with one for the RX-8. People need to be aware that we just look fast even when parked.

Impressive, but people seem to judge speed by sound instead of actually looking at the car. I've seen a bunch of car with either fart cans or just busted muffler where the cars sounds fast, it sounds like they're taking off really fast but when you look at them, they're slowwwwwwwwwww.

I have had people comment, "It looks like it is doing 100, and it's just parked." It's true, the car looks very fast.
