RX-8 Mazda Owner's Manual Product Update DVD

This was in my car's glovebox when I bought it used at the dealer. I haven't seen it posted yet so I uploaded it. Youtube booted it off straight away so I put it up on Vimeo. We'll see how long it lasts there

"Mazda does not recommend using synthetic engine oil". Pretty hard to not understand that statement.

Oh New Yorker, you were even more clueless back then.

Bump for noobs so they can watch the deflood procedure in this vid rather than relying on all the other stupid deflood procedures recommended on this site and on youtube.

Cool,

Never seen this. Just the imagery is worth the price of admission.

I will save it just to show people how it works.

Because they don't know the long term effects of using synthetic oil.

Another point worth noting, 87-90 octane fuel can be used but it will result in lower performance. 85 and lower octane fuel will damage the engine.

I have two of those DVDs, too. One came with the car. The other came later on, as a gift around the time the 8 year engine core warranty started. I guess Mazda wanted everyone to understand that they should not use synthetic oil. Nor gas below 87 octane.

I got the disk right after the emission recall 4206F came out if memory serves, and I was the second owner. Funny, I pulled it out of the glovebox the other day when I was cleaning it out.

According to the Japanese owners manual 0w30 Genuine Mazda Synthe-Renesis synthetic oil is the only oil that Mazda recommends.

Conflicting info from Mazda is part of the fun of the dino-synth debate. And why the related threads are hundreds of posts long.

I don't think there is any conflict. Mazda doesn't recommend synthetic because they haven't tested it. The do recommend Mazda Synthe-Renesis synthetic because they have tested it. The difference is the Mazda oil isn't sold in all markets. It may only be sold in Japan.
The term "doesn't recommend" and won't work are not the same thing.

Although some dealers and MNAO have interpreted it to be the same as "not allowed" when it gave them the chance to weasel out of the engine warranty.

Not saying they were right or made sense...just saying what they've pulled. They also voided one member's entire warranty because he posted that he had driven at 100 mph. And the video doesn't even say anything about obeying traffic laws.

I think what Mazda is trying to say is that if you are going to use a synthetic oil in a rotary engine then you have to use a thinner oil like Genuine Mazda Synthe Renesis 0w30. According to the Society of Automotive Engineers publication ( The Development of Lubricating Oils for Rotary Racing Engines), when you have 2 oils of the exact same viscosity a synthetic oil will leave more deposits on the apex seals than a petroleum oil. But a thinner synthetic will leave less deposits than a thicker petroleum oil. This is because thinner oils have a lower flash point and burn a lot easier.

I think a lot of people have a problem with using a 0w30 synthetic oil because they think it is too thin and will wreck your engine. The truth is that 0w30 synthetic will outperform any 5w20 petroleum oil.
