As an aside, at 6'1" I may not be large but I'm certainly not small...and I fit quite comfortably in the back of the 8. If kids hate riding in the back it's either because (a) they're enormous or (b) they would prefer to be behind the wheel.

When i recently went to our local Mazda dealership, my dad who is 5'8'' adjusted the drivers seat for him and then moved to the back seat. Now my dad is not a large or tall man by any means, and even he thought the back seat was cramped. While i didnt get a chance to sit in the back, he compared the rear seats to the rear seats in his porsche Carrera 4 s, and said that they were very similar, but there was more head room and the seats were better bolstered. my (his) 2 cents
