RX-8 might be toast
Ive had my 2004 for about 2 weeks now and i bought it used at the dealer warranty voided--well voiding that warranty was probably the dumbest thing i have ever done in my life....
i got in the car the other day to start it and it wouldnt start up... i thought it was flooded so i took it to midas.. they work on all my stuff... and they put it up in the air took the spark plugs out and cranked the engine to blow the fuel out because it was flooded..
i was standing at the left front tire and i felt something on my hand so i say what is this?
he looks down with his flash light and says buddy... you have been hosed...
he had both the high end and the low end sparks out and in the low end there was a milky substance coming out... a mixture of oil and water it looked like...
i dont know what to do... the car has 110k on it... is there any kind of warranty i can buy through mazda and then take it in and say it wont start?
im really lookin for a way out because i just bought this and im already struggling for payments--- now im going to be struggling for payments for a car that does not run
anyone have any suggestions?

get a detailed report from midas on what's wrong w/ the car. then get an attorney. if the dealer knowingly sold you a car on the fringe of dying, you might have some recourse. (assuming u didn't void the warranty by modifying it, of course. otherwise, all bets are off.)

The Warranty should be LONG gone @ 110K miles ...
what kind of milky stuff it has ? there shouldnt be any.
Is there any Green Coolant coming out of the spark plug hole ? if yes then most likely your engine is bad, if its just white stuff then try to Suck it all out with a strong industrial grade Vacuum cleaner, then replace new plugs and coils then start again.

when you buy a car with NO warranty. you buy it AS - IS. you are screwed.
sorry man. buying cars is not like houses. houses come with disclosures, etc and all kinds of rules/regs to prevent people from ripping you off. Cars are not the same way. you can sell a car on it's last legs to someone, and if it dies as they drive away, it's theirs.
you bought it. it's yours. you mentined it has 110k miles on it. you can FORGET anyone giving you a warranty on an rx8 with 110k miles on it. most extended warranties can ONLY be purchased on a car while the existing factory warranty is still in effect...given the mileage..your WAY over that. WAY OVER.
so once again, you are screwed.
i'd say you need to find a place that can fix it. maybe some small shop would agree to fix it on credit or something.
i hate to sound like the last guy, but you kind of did this to yourself. if you can barely afford the car, what are you doing buying a car with notoriety for being less than perfectly reliable, with ***110,000 miles *** and no warranty. that's like picking up a rattlesnake, swinging it around by it's tail, and then complaining that it bit you.
you should have bought a civic.

well, there has to be some amount of consumer protection. i mean, i can't knowingly sell you a broken tv or broken computer. even if u go to small claims u can probably win that. a good attorney ought to be able to find a good loophole or spin on it to at least buy u some leverage.

Contact a local attorney. Someone competent should be able to take care of this with a couple of phone calls. Get good documentation from the Midas shop. Under the Uniform Commercial Code--Article 2 there are various warranties and protections for the purchase of goods from 'merchants'. Anyhow--get an attorney and have him call the dealer after securing a report on the condition of the car from the Midas shop.

depends your state consumer protection laws.
I would do a little research on some law sites before you contact a lawyer. Nothing like paying someone $300 just to tell you that you're really screwed.
Get a compression check done. Maybe you just flooded it and fouled the plugs ( i doubt the salesman told you this, but these cars can be prone to frequent flooding)
A flood means your plugs are most likely toast. www.sparkplugs.com has the cheapest replacement plugs that you will find.

If you buy another/different engine . . . . . . will you make it a 2JZ . . .then start a thread about it . . . . . . . then . . . . ?
#14
Well first I would take it to someone that knows rotary engines.
Midas is not the shop for a rotary.
Find out what the deal with it is and then decide where to go from there.
All you have right now is some guy that is used to looking at piston engines saying you are screwed.

I kinda doubt ur engine is toasted.
However, you MUST change your coils and plugs now. Which is NOT expensive if u get it from one of our forum vendors.
Coils 27 each, u need 4
Plugs u need 2 leading and 2 trailing, so total of 4, you can get them from Sparkplugs.com
Then get some Anti-Seize paste for the plug threads. few bux can buy u a big can which should last the life of ur car( and maybe 3 more cars)
Replace all urself, u just need some basic handtools and maybe an hour of ur time, plus u will learn something in the process. do it

midas does good work for me ive been there for years so that swhy i took it there... there is a guy there that use to work for mazda for 6 years so he knows about the rotary... he changed the sparks i know that for sure but what are the coils?
#18
a coil is the thing that makes the spark plugs spark.
#20
you attach the coils to spark plug wires, then u attach it to the plugs itself.
You can order 4 @ our vendors. 27 each. its the CHEAPEST that you can get. Dont even try your local Mazda dealer or go thru Midas, it will cost you a lot more.

This is what the Ignition coil looks like. You either get it from the link above (remember, you will need 4 !)
Or you can get it thru OnlineMazdaparts here

Buddy, the first thing that you need to do is take it to a rotary mechanic or Mazda dealership, and have it compression tested. That will tell you whether or not you need a new engine.
2nd, the guy who said that there are lots of warranty protections in article 2 is blowing hot air. Article 2 protects the sale of NEW goods with lots of implied warranties as well as the express warranty attached to the car. A used car with 110,000 miles is sold as-is (unless the dealer gave you an express warranty in writing on the Bill of Sale), and the only warranties that a dealership can be held to are those express warranties that it makes about the vehicle. If you asked whether the engine was in good shape and they said yes, then maybe there is an argument, but it is very hard to make unless that warranty was put in writing on the Bill of Sale.
IMHO without having seen the car, the presence of watery muck coming out of the spark plug hole is a sign that the Midas mechanic is right and that the engine seals are dead.
I'm sorry for you and best of luck.
You are in a tough position. Best of luck.
