RX-8 owner personal info

hello, all. Would've put this in the lounge, but for exclusive rx-8 owners only...I recently joined the website about a month ago and love the insight and info available for all the silly questions I have had...being a newbee and all. But I wonder about the sort of people who drive this car, personalities I mean. Pouring over profiles is time consuming and takes the fun out of it, so I'll start by introducing myself, what I do, what I like, etc...so please respond if you have the time.

I live in Lee's Summit, MO (suburb of KC). Went to hs in Pleasant Hill, played baseball at U.M.R. for a week, transferred school to Longview, learned I couldn't sit at a computer desk my whole life, so I started working for an elevator company in the elevator constructor's union. I'm an intern, or apprentice, and am currently working down at the lake of the ozarks.

I've owned 7 cars in my brief 22 year old life: one of which an 1985 Jimmy, 355ci, holley double pumper, hookers, 31" BFGs, all chromed out. Sold it to buy my first baby, a 1986 IROC-Z, 383 stroker, KB pistons, AFR 195s, TPIS miniram, new T-56, 3.73, ZR1s, SS hood, the works! I had that 2 years ago, ran 11.92 on DRs, then it got broken into and stolen. Oh well, such is life. Then Janrary '06, wanting an RX-8, I bought an '03 yellow full-size explorer and drove it the next 16 months. Got sick of it, so I bought the 8! Yellow, of course, one of only 2 I've seen in the KC metro area the last 4 years (though I'm sure there are more). I love the 8, like so many others, and this coming from someone who has never owned anything other than the big 3. My first "import", although now who knows what's really made here...

You go through a lot of cars! I'm 62, and my RX-8 is my eighth.

My first car was built in Italy. Fifth and sixth in Germany. Now a Japanese car built in Japan. The Axis may have lost the war, but they sure sell a lot of cars.

This is the first Japanese car I've owned that was actually built in Japan. As a fan of nuclear devices, that it was built in Hiroshima appeals to me.

I think you'll find a variety of profiles here like no other, though there may be a bias towards the younger and goofier (not necessarily related) on this particular site.

I don't see this variety with the other sites I frequent. Without getting into details, I noticed my favorite BMW biker site has a consistently older skew that loves technical talk, while my fav. sportbike site has a lot of younger bench racers and posers. Even the VW and Miata sites I used to frequent had much more consistency in the type of characters they attracted. But this is part of what makes this site fun.

Anyways, welcome! The 8 is obviously a very different car than what you’re used to, but it has quite the loyal following as you can see.

I've always wondered if the radiation level of an Rx-8 was slightly higher than other cars...

in pity to the newb, I'll list my cars. I'm 25.

1986 200sx Turbo (RWD s12 chassis)
1990 240sx (long before the sr20det craze...)
1994 Ford Aspire (penalty box car for crashing my 240)
2000 Civic Si (the ultimate civic USDM, in my book. Mr brother owned a yellot ITR at the time!)
1996 240sx turbo-KA (the beginning of the turbo 240 fanboi craze)
2000 Camry (college got to expensive for a turbo nissan)
2007 Phantom Blue rx8 Sport, 6 speed, no Bose, no six disc, no sun-roof. As light and roomy as I can make it. ******* love this thing, but I'm already in legal trouble.

If this is just gonna turn into another "what cars I have owned" thread, you could always just post in this "sticky"...

the was the model year, lol. not, the actual year. I turned 16 on January 1st 1997, and I've been licensed in VA ever since.

So that this isn't just a cars thread, I grew up in Fairfax and Frederisckburg VA, went to college in Harrisonburg VA, and then moved back to Arlington VA. My god, I need to move somewhere

Sorry, it was like 8am over here in CA when I read that. My mind doesn't function very well early in the morning.

Yellow was only offered for the first model year so you have a unique color. You won't see many others.

Maybe he is referring to the great Ron Burgundy?

"Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina."
