RX-8 owner at a Porsche dealership

I went to a Porsche dealership to pick up a Boxster brochure for one of my co-workers. When I drove up, I parked next to grey RX-8. I went in the dealership, got the brochure, and I happened to return to my car at the same time the RX-8 owner returned to his. He said nice car to me (I own a silver Mazda 6 V6 with the sports package). This surprised me because I think his car is far more interesting than mine. I returned the compliment and asked him how he liked the RX-8. He said he absolutely loved it. He ended up telling me that he also bought a Boxster for his wife and he was there to pick up his tags. While we were talking, we noticed that several people stopped and looked and/or commented about his car. This seemed pretty odd because there were 911s, 911 Turbos and GT2s parked near his car. However, his car got plenty of attention. Needless to say, RX-8 is a very attractive car. Do you owners still get plenty of attention?

depends on where you live i guess. but the porsche will get more attention because of the name. but if people don't know what an rx-8 is its cool.

The 911 is truly a benchmark among sports cars, so that's great that people were taking notice of the RX-8. In my experience, most Porsche owners (minus Cayenne owners) really love their cars, but also love and appreciate the technical engineering aspects of other cars as well. I found it interesting how the 2005 RX-8 brochures referenced the Porsche 911, saying the RX-8 had almost the exact same dimensions. I'm sure this was just an excuse to relate the 911 ($60,000) to the RX-8 ($25,000), as I'm pretty sure most people don't cross-shop the two, nor would the length and width of a car immediately vouch for a car's sportiness (if a Toyota Echo is shorter than an RX-8 and 911, does that mean it's an even better handling sports car? Heck no!).

I've had people yell at me at traffic lights telling me I had "a pretty cool car" and asking how much my RX-8 cost. I've also had a woman tell me my car was "absolutely gorgeous" in a parking lot while I was washing it. She better have with all the work I was doing buffing that wax to a shine!

I get attention every so often while I drive around my town. Usualy from Teenagers walking by or driving by hehe. Though the best is when I see people in SUV's and Trucks turning their heads as they drive by me while I wait at a stoplight with a look of "whoah!" on their face. Just wish the women would start to notice haha.. need to go to the beach I guess, damn New England weather stop raining!!

Police officer at a military front gate made me open all the doors. He was freaked out and said he'd have to sell his home to afford something like that. Last week three compliments in one day.

I still get a lot of long looks and double takes on the road.

I was chatting with the owner of a 911S at an autocross practice who really liked the RX-8. It turns out used to own a first generation RX-7 and we talked about how the rotary engine had evolved since then. He was quite impressed with what Mazda has accomplished with the Renesis as compared to the old 12A and 13B engines.

And the RX-8 not only has similar dimensions to the 911, the chassis has a equivalent torsional rigidity (IIRC).

All the time here as well. Just over two months with my '05 Shinka and just yesterday I did a double take of my own vehicle coming out from lunch. "Look at that great car, oh wait a minute, it's mine!"

Lots of attention, specially from local cops a few weeks of owning the car.

Sure porsche is a bench mark. They have spent untold millions and millions perfecting an imperfect design.
And yet little old Mazda with a Rotary beat them at Lemans. How sweet is that?

Agreed, Porsche is keeping the power down in this car so it doesn't over take their 911 flagship. Mid engine beats rear engine any day.

I like the looks people give while they are in their mazda 3 or 6. We are all family though. I'll keep the seat warm. The only thing I don't like about driving a red rx-8 is the fact that as soon as I get in the left lane, it doesn't matter if I am going 65 or 120 there is always someone just wanting to keep up right on my ***.

Wouldn't happen to be refurring to a cop, would you? Because they LOVE to follow us sporty cars...especially red! That's ok though...i don't mind the extra attention!
