RX-8 questions

i havnt got one yet but im looking to getting a used 03 plus probably because they are in my price range. my questions are

1. pros and cons of the 8
2. i know quite a bit about standard internal combustion engines but are the rotary as reliable and do they hold up with alot of miles on them?

1.

Pros:
-Revs to 9,000
-Handles like a dream
-Great brakes
-Fun to drive
-Great sound
-Unique

Cons:
-Gas mileage
-Straight line speed

2.

I've never had to replace an engine but some forum members are on their 3rd. Reliability=not the best. If you want a 200,000 mile car get a civic.

if your budget is that low, this isn't a good car to choose. If something goes wrong, it can be quite expensive. For example, new headlights from mazda are $1500 each. New steering wheel is also like $1500. New leather seat? $1500.

In fact, I think every part in this car is $1500.

2003 RX8's were not in production in N. America, but were overseas, correct?

Except a factory cigarette lighter. It's only $1450.

A used '03? Good luck with that. Where are you located?

I would have to say that reliability wise its not very high on that but the problems are usually internal and the motor is a 1.3L that is a breeze to tear down and rebuild. So you can get a car with the same power but more reliability but when the day comes that you need to tear it down in 200k miles you wont want to and it will be a lot of work. Its just a fun motor but it is not a daily driver IMO, weekend fun and it wont kill you to rebuild. Of course not all of us are fortunate enough to know how to rebuild it but if you can find someone that does them and is willing to lend a hand its worth learning.

in car sales there is a certain cutoff in a model year to be sold as the forthcoming year.. in our case the cars built from 8/03-12/03 were sold as model year 04s.

i believe the OP might refer to it the car he's looking at as an 03 due to the build date?
