RX-8 Round Two
Well, with just over 145K miles on my 2004 RX-8, I recently replaced it with a 2009 RX-8 R3. It’s in pretty good shape, though was missing the R3 wheels. I spent quite a while cross shopping, but there’s just not a lot of comparable options in the price range.
After the experience I had with the first one, I decided to take it in to Mazda for a compression test to see where it stood before starting on maintenance. It passed the test, though based on what I’ve read on here the figures are a bit low for the cranking RPM. Curious if anyone had any comments on the results for a S2 motor with 31K miles?
Some other thoughts; I think I kind of prefer the rear look of the 2010-11 models with no written out Mazda badge. I read that there were actual slots in the trunk for the badging, so did they just revise the trunk itself for 2010-11 then?
Also, the wiring for my rear-view mirror is just hanging behind it. If I recall on my 2004 there was a piece of plastic that held it neatly against the windshield. Dealer said it was normal. Did this change with the series 2 cars or am I missing a piece?
Anyhow, here goes round two!

you know I've been thinking of getting some aftermarket wheels to replace my R3 wheels.

I was looking into this, and it looks like the piece varies based on whether you have the auto-dimming mirror and/or rain-sensing wipers. On the dealer part sites I see them listed under the BODY HARDWARE / WINDSHIELD / GLASS / Cover category.
