RX-8 seems to hold it's value

I was looking through the AutoTrader (www.autotrader.ca) and I notice the RX-8 seems to hold it's resale value pretty good. A 2004 RX-8 GT went for around $37,000 where I live when released and I see they sell for $28k - $35k, depending on the milage and condition.

I just purchased the 5 year / 100,000 km extended warranty which is transferable. I am hoping when I sell it at the 3 or 4 year mark, the left over warranty will be a selling feature.

I store it for 6 months out of the year and last year, I only put 18,000 km on it. At this rate, if I sell it in fours years, there should be 20,000 km or 1-year left for the next owner.

Ive noticed this topic has been debated. Most people are here will say that the 8 has a pretty crapped resale value. I got my 04 full loaded 6spd last week for 21.5 (check sig for details)

Since the guy is posting a .ca domain name I'm guessing he's in Canada and thus using Canadian dollars. Make sure to compare apples to apples.

Yeah, lousy metric system. What's wrong with stones, furlongs, and quibbs? I think I made the last one up, but it sounded right.

I agree. Screw that kph nonsense! Velocity should always be expressed as furlongs-per-fortnight.

Used 8 values in Canada are bizarre. I don't understand why they're so high.

The resale is pretty bad actually, at least in my area.

I bought my 2004 MT GT at a sticker price of $31,600 USD with no discounts. Last month, in excellent condition with only 17K miles and 16 months of factory warranty left, I could get $18,700 USD trade. With 2005 GT MTs going out the door for $24K-$25K USD I would be lucky to get $22K in a private sale.

If you bought your RX-8 new at a substantial discount or used, then the depreciation is not too bad. If you paid new sticker price, its a toad!

Hmm...the depreciation is about what I expected though. I'll be able to buy my 04 MT GT for no more than 16,500 USD when it's lease is up in March of 2008. I'm not reallyl concerned about it though, as I never plan on ever giving it up to anyone else. I'll be 80 years old and still have it if I can manage it. (I'm 27 now) Of course by then gas will probably be 10 dollars a gallon. LOL...

In reference to my comment above about "lucky to get $22K in a private sale" see https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=81579 .

I rest my case!

The resale value on RX8's where I live is fairly good. 2004 sport models usually go for around $22,000-$23,000 at the dealers.
