i'm always sorry to hear about things like this. i know what it feels like. however, unless you're willing to sleep in your car with a taser or rig the car to explode when they enter, there's not much any of us can do but pray it doesn't happen.

sorry to say ... that's not an issue if they are pros ...

Here's what typically happens- I had my parking lot ticket with me- so I asked the same question- what did they show you on exit? The answer is they- claim a lost ticket, and for lot C- it's a $10.00 charge--The Lic. plate are inventoried once a day so they know what to charge you.
Police have just asked for a copy of my service record- last time car was for service-(12/14/04)- I have faxed- I asked what this was all about- but the person who I spoke to said, an investigator would be touch. I called my insurance-to update- they said forget about- they will take care, DVN ntoified- Car now belongs to ALLSTATE.

No wonder insurance rates are so high... the cops never due any due diligences on car theft right from the start.

Good luck in either finding your car or a good replacement.

Gosh, sorry again but keep is posted on what happens next. So, Allstate now owns it huh...well, you know get a new 8 out of the deal right...not too bad, but here comes the break-in period (that I'm currently suffering through...lol) again

I wonder, how does this thing work? OK, so you owe X amount (with GAP insurance) they pay off your car or do they give you a check?

I ask because what if you put down, when you got your 8, like $3,000. If they only pay off the loan then that would mean you would have to finance a new 8 (or lease) but now without the 3g's down you had before? That would suck!

If that happend to me I could not get another 8 then, because I would have lost my 3g's down. How does this stuff work?

That's true if you want to make a duplicate. But these guys wanted to steal a car, not make a duplicate key. With a WDS you can have no original keys and still start the car. It can be done a number of ways, but the quickest involves replacement of the ignition switch module. Unplug the old one, plug in the new one with it's new key, reprogram the Keyless Control Module using WDS, forcefully break the steering lock, start the car and drive away.

I'm not giving away any secrets here...this is info out there in the public domain.

Gomez.

The Gap covers the difference between blue and actual value. Borrowed or lease co., gets balance of note paid- you gets the rest.

Frank, sorry...but I still don't get it completely...

Blue book vs What is owed on the car (or what it's worth?)

...and you get what? Sorry for not understanding your last post...

It's blue book trade in value Instead of -low book (what a dealer would typically give you), you get retail. You can go to Kelly Blue book, and chek out the difference on virtually any car.

Gap insurance covers you for the difference between any insurance settlement and WHAT YOU OWE on your loan. This is especially critical if you lease your car - my car is leased and for the first 2 years you are "updside down" - the amount you owe the leasing co. is more than the car is worth. The gap insurance covers that.

Right - most insurance companies will pay the Blue Book Value (minus your deductible) to the finance company. If the amount paid is more than what you borrowed, you get the balance. If you owe more than the Blue Book Value, which is most likely the case with a new vehicle, the gap insurance will pay that difference.

When I picked up my car, one of the options that I purchased was the alarm upgrade. The only selling feature of the upgrade was a 3 year warranty that if my car is stolen in that time, they will buy me a new one, not just pay off the difference from the insurance company. In theory if my car gets stolen at 2 years 11 months, they will buy me a new RX-8. You will want to check to see if you got that.

If the key was actually coded, anyway to find out what dealers did it? It should be on record somewhere.

The keys supplied with the car at delivery are factory programmed. The dealer only gets involved if you request extra keys.

I'd love to find out what happened to this car. Frank, if it ever shows up please fill us in with regards to any insight as to how it was stolen.

Regards, Gomez.

Wow--figures though--alot of stolen cars here in Houston end up in Mexico too. If it is in Mexico it probably is in one piece.

I have a question for you guys. Did any of you get the glass etching and the encoding on all the panels of the car? This was offered at my dealership and I will have to read more about the perks, but basically if my car is stolen...all the parts are traceable, even if they are repainted. It offers a warranty (I think it is 5 years), that the tracing company will put you up in a hotel, get you a rental until it is found, cover a certain amount of the gap in what the insurance will pay if your car is not found, etc. I just wondered if anyone else had this?

If you have a steering wheel lock, the thieves may just go find another car.
FP - sorry about your situation. I hope things work out for the best in the end.

A Club lock will deter amateur joyriders. These guys were professional car thieves.
