RX-8 too low on torque?
hey guys, this is my first post and i usually post a lot on bimmerforums.com but hey, i thought i'd join you guys as well since i love rx-8s. I really want an rx-8 but i heard rx-8s are no beasts when it comes to acceleration. like i was comparing the car with my 325Ci and the torque was ridiculously low. is there any turbo rx-8s in future? thanks!

I had a 2003 330i prior to my RX8 and the biggest difference I found was the power of the 8 was more linear.
The RX8 is a quick car and never feels like it's lacking power, it just delivers power differently then the BMW.

OK I had an E46 325i for 4 years and traded it on my RX-8. As I think you would be aware the 325i/ci is hardly the last word in torque either. Like most Bimmers - V8's aside - it does its best work above 4000rpm. Subjectively I can tell you the RX-8 feels quite a bit more responsive ( torquey), more of the time. The reasons:
1. It is much lower geared, to take advantage of the much higher rev limit available from the rotary.
2. It has six close ratio gears, so there's nearly always the perfect gear for every occasion.
3. Its throttle response is superior. 325i is "doughy" in comparison
For what it's worth I also find the RX-8's steering feel to be superior, and ride under really demanding twisty/bumpy road conditions is also more fluid than my 325i ( which was equipped with BMW sport suspension). And of course leaving aside the torque issue, it's very clear that the RX-8 is significantly faster from a standing start across ALL speed increments than the 325i.
The 325i is still a truly outstanding sport SEDAN, it's just that the RX-8 is the better sports CAR.
Trust the above insight helps...
