RX-8 v S2000 - 3rd gear pull

Hey guys - just ran into (no pun intended) an S2000 on the highway. we pulled 3rd gear, probably from about 60 to about 90 and it was stride for stride, if anything i had him by a foot or two. we downshifted to 3rd at almost the exact same time too. anyone have any experience with this? i know they're faster 0-60 but i was surprised 3rd gear was so close.

i have a stock 6sd. he had a manual, looked like stock exhaust but definitely sounded different so i assume he had an intake.

nah he had to have gone into 3rd. if it was 4th he wouldnt have been able to keep up at all. and if he was racin then he probably shifted to the lowest possible gear without overreving so he wouldnt have started in 4th at 60 mph.. unless he was retarded aha.

The S2K is faster in every gear, he either wasn't racing, he didn't shift to 3rd, there's something wrong with his car, or this didn't really happen.

hmmm, from supportive to mockery, this forum has it all. i saw his car jerk when he downshifted, and there's no way he went to 4th ... an s2000 as a 9k redline like us, so 4th gear at 60 mph would be useless. like i said, it looked stock except it was really loud, so he had to have had an intake. i was driving alone, and he had someone riding shotgun, so maybe the extra 150lbs or so made the difference .......

According to the national average, it was likely a little closer to almost 200lbs for an average american. Obesity is an epidemic.

Given so, very possible.

Its because this forum does not allow street racing stores to be posted. No one will reply seriously to threads like this.

S2000 has no top end power, their Engine peak very early.

Unlike Rx8, which tops at 8500 rpm (stock)

ITs really hard to say if one car is faster than the other on certain gears, cuz it depends on alot of factors, like drivers, shift time, Rubbers, etc.

Where did you get this information? Since when did 60-90 mph become top end speed?

He found the info in his ***.

It only makes sense, the older S2K which only hit peak hp at 8300rpms is clearly slower than the RX-8 because it tops out 200rpms sooner. Which is also why the RX-8 is faster than a Ford GT and Bugatti Veyron. Get it?

RX8 is a great car and is well balanced, but it can't hold off an S2000 acceleration-wise. Here's a clip from Best Motoring if you haven't seen it yet. Looks like a 3rd gear pull and the S2000 can easily overtake an RX8 in the straights.

"He had a manual"? Doesn't the S2000 come only with a manual tranny?

Why is this thread still alive?

I never said Rx8 is faster than S2000. but usually close match like these depends on alot of factors.

S2K's engine can go up to 8300 without problems, altho the redline is 8K. Peak at what ? 7800 ? but for some reason when Im in it (freaking tight space) it feels the same between 6500~8K. Maybe just me.

Rx8 lacks the punch(TQ) thats a sad fact tho.

huh, dont they rev to 9K on the 2.0L?

I have driven both cars, the RX-8 feels like it has a broader powerband, but the S2000 feels peakier.

I have to upload a video to my server. One member here(dont recall which one) had some video of him with and a S2000 going around a track. Looked pretty damn even to me.
