I took my friends out to lunch today in my RX-8. On the way back we saw a convertible 350Z with a license plate that said R8VS3Z.

No I'm not making this up. It really happened.

All I can say is that the guy must really have a chip on his shoulder if he felt the need to create a vanity plate to express his feelings on the RX-8 and 350Z debate.

Oh yeah, at lunch I parked next to a Lotus Exige. Very cool car.

 

lol i work at a nissan dealership, and we have a mazda dealer right next to us (which im now being transferred to) but you can see all the Mazda cars and they had a RX-8 with a plate that said IOWNZS, pretty funny

 

hah.nice little story there...I bet the pilot of the 350z got his *** handed to him by mutliple rx8s so he felt the need to express his hate for the car he just cannot defeat!

Hahaha.. thats classic. I've yet to see this in the real world but I am waiting for it one day. Only experince I've had of a Rx-8 Vs. XXX car is some guy in a Evo driving by me in the oposing direction giving me this I dunno hand across his face while looking at me and a "dont mess with me" look on his face. Sadly he was fat and ugly so it didnt impress me much just made me laugh because well it was rather sad overall.

There's really no need for such provocative message on your license plate - there will be occasions when this will only cause you problems otherwise you could avoid.

 

hahaa i think its so funny that some people can be so rivalous (is this a word?) when will the fighting stop? i hope the 8 vs. 350z issue won't be the cause of another war. just be like Michael Jackson...and say "I'm a lover, not a fighter".

Honestly, an RX8 isn't going to beat a 350Z in the real world unless the driver of the 350Z is horrible. 350Z's trap 100+ stock consistently, about 5 mph faster than the fastest of the stock RX8's. I've NEVER seen a rx8 get into the high 13's or even 14 flat stock, it's a regular occurance for the faster cars like the 350Z, S2000, E36 M3

well, in the streets, that's pretty much what it comes down to...light to light drag race....although it's pretty stupid.

I have great respect for the 350Z and considered purchasing one (not to the point of actually DRIVING one, but I digress), but I have to agree with you on this one. The convertible model looks like it's having a particularly bad pregnancy.

 

I guess that depends upon where you live. There are many twisty, lightly-trafficked, mucho fun roads in NY's Hudson Valley, for instance, that let you utilize the RX8 in the manner the engineers intended. Not that I've ever engaged in any combat with 3-series coupes on such roads or anything. That would be bad. I deny any knowledge of any such antics. I swear.

By the way, anyone "played" on the road between Fort Smith and the Bear Mountain Bridge (US 202)?

 

i think its kind of funny, hes not really playing the 8 down just showing a common battle.

 

that Evo driver is pathetic. people need to realize that speed isn't the only factor that makes a car fun and great. best example is the toyota ae86...it's slow as *****, but one of the most fun cars to drive. i know ppl that would take that car over cars that can put trains on it by the end of 1320.

the evo driver probably needed the car to compensate for somethin' else

straightline racing is pointless and stupid, but that's as good as it's gonna get on the streets....when the highway opens up for a mile, u know u can't resist the urge

but yes, a car like the rx8 makes its home on the tracks or twisties....light to light/highway racing don't bring out what it's designed for....

Very true. But whenever there's a speed comparison between two cars, someone always tries to make the deciding factor the quarter mile times. In this thread, especially, it was stated that and RX-8 could never beat a Z because a Z traps faster... its like no other kind of racing is even acknowledged. Who gives a **** if the Z runs a 13.7 in the quarter? Sure it beats the 8, but that's not even a particularly good time. The only cars that will run sub-11's out of the box are cars that cost more than our homes, and even sport bikes, junior dragsters, and homebuilt street-rods can beat them. Throw that quarter-mile **** away and give me a road course or an autocross track any day.

 

This is all personal opinion. I have owned both a 350Z & a RX-8. They both have some serious differences. One the 350Z has some serious power stock and does run good track times, onlyproblem is that it has extremely short gears. Rx-8's are fun to drive anytime because they can handle in bad weather. 350Z's are like driving a mustang in just a little water they loose control. I could go on all day saying the differences between the two but I will end it saying you can't say anything negative about a 350Z until you owned one, they are a slick ride and have some serious speed if you are into that.

By the way there is a Guy here in Cincinnati that has a LP that says eightaZ

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyway. If a someone has a Z and likes it, fine, whatever. Cars with provocative license plates (or bumper stickers) are just asking to get keyed.

I really don't care if Xxxx or Yyyy car can "beat" mine.
