RX-8 vs G35, which to buy?
#51
I've seen plenty of econoboxes that I think look better than anything from Infinity or Nissan ... that new Scion coupe is one of them ...
I think the point he's making is that the RX-8 causes you to go "WHOA! WTF is that???" and the G35, IF you notice it makes you go "mmm ... new car".

Thats exactly what I mean.
I don't want to knock Nissan (actually I do, I owned one, and will NEVER buy one again due to poor quality and a snotty little french ******* cutomer service rep in Montreal).
In Canada the G35 goes for 45- 50 grand. That is a lot of money for a plain ol car.
Honestly , and I am not insane, but I would buy a Hyundai Elantra which to mee looks similar to the G35. I could buy 2 of them for the price of the Infiniti.
They all look the same, and quality would be very simillar.
Infiniti are like the Acuras, just very dressed up honda's and Nissans.
People are led to believe they are buying a premium product and they are charged premium prices.
If you are really old and want to look cool, and waste lots of money then buy the G35. If you want to look cool and save a bucket than go with the Hyundai.
If you ARE cool or want to be cool then you buy an RX8.
It really is that simple.
I thought this post was an April fools joke or something.
The mustang stands out, but I think it is ugly (and poorly built).
To compare the G35 and the RX8 is well umm silly. They dont compare.
One is yawn and one is @#@$#$^(*&)^(&*%*&^$*&%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
Mazda quality is there no worries. Nissan quality is there for the most part but little things like door locks rusting in 4 years, and the plastic guage cover turning white will drive you crazy.
And don't bother phoning gay little"Michelle" in Montreal. He will be of no help, he is snooty.
I dont want to come across as bashing you for considering the G35. I am sure it is a well built car.
It just seemed odd to put it in the same class as the RX8. Your theme is sports cars and then you throw in a plain Jane.

I always get a laugh out of people that initiate "hmm, what should I buy" posts on this board, and the tools that argue against it.
It's like asking a Bostonian if he'd like the Red Sox to win the world series. Or a bar full of drinkers if they think it's a good idea to get a free round.
Just what kind of answer were you expecting from this board? "Oh yeah, I have the RX-8 but the G35 is a much better/cooler/faster/etc. car. You should buy that ..."
Ok, now the guy that initiated this, I think his intentions were reasonable, but really folks, is it that surprising that we would all voe "buy an -8?"

My decision to buy came down to the G35 and the RX-8 among others. The difference for me to purchase the RX-8:
(1) G35 - by far more luxurious interior/appointment. However, standard black and too refined for a 'sports coupe.'
(2) In SoCal, the G35 has quickly become the next dime-a-dozen BMW 3 series and Mercedes C-Class
(3) The finer points of the G35 were not worth the 10K diffference in price and to follow the Jones'.

I started this becaue I have no experiance with rotary engines so I wanted everyone's input, your thoughts are appritiated!

2 pictures. Silver car. Each one new. One is more expensive.
They both look like new silver cars. Wow.

BUT, AGAIN...The 8 is most likely the car (GOD WILLING) I will get, I'm more at ease as I ever have been about the 8. THANK YOU ALL

The Hyundai Elantra and the G35 are the same car. Sure the G35 is a little nicer in terms of comfort but at the end of the day it is a little steel, 4 tires, and a wrapper.
The Elantra is priced at what it should be.
Anyway that is a different topic all together.
Bottom line is the g35 is a nice looking new car that looks like other new nice looking cars.
The RX8 is a showpiece, eye catcher, eye turner, head spinner, anyone who drives on knows exactly what I am talking about.
I suggested the Elantra because the g35 is a basic a to b transportation vehicle.
The Elantra will acheive the same results for less money.
Agree or disagree with the plain Jane remark. It doesnt matter.
The RX8 is a hot car.
The G35 is a plain Jane.
It really is that simple.
P.S. How many G35 owners get stopped in parking lots, etc and are asked "wow what kind of car is that?, ^&$*%^$* is that ever nice? is that a Viper?"
It would be a safe bet almost none.
Actually a G35 owner might be asked "nice Hyundai, how much was it?"

Are you trolling or not? I can't figure it out.
Elantra looks like this
G35C looks like this. they do not look a like.
One has 260 HP, one has 132. One is a Japanese car, the other Korean. Not to diss the Korean auto industry but they're well known to not be on par with the Japanese (yet; they're making big strides but they've still got aways to go).
The first time I saw a G35, I was wowed by it. But I'll agree that they're so common now that I don't bother being impressed by them any more. But that's not the fault of the car itself. It's a great car and it's DEFINITELY not the same as an Elantra.
Geez, name a car that isn't "but at the end of the day it is a little steel, 4 tires, and a wrapper". Hello? You just described pretty much every car out there. Just get an Echo then. It's also a little steel, 4 tires, and a wrapper.

They look simmilar.
The point I was trying to make is they look the same to me.
Korean quality is not as good as the Japanese but it is as good as American quality.
Yes every car is 4 tires and some steel. The point was the * is a hot looking car that stands out. The g35 does not stand out. It is just a car. 4 wheels and steel. Save your money.
Cars are transportation. Some cars stand out above all others. The g35 is not one of them.
There are other "just a car" to chose from for less money .
How do you define trolling?

Like alot of people have said, the G35 is a great car. The 8 is a great car also and has an extra...WOW or two in it's playing hand.
Note: I thought the G35 weighed 3250 pounds, it's actually 3430....alot more than the 8.

Ah, I guess you're not trolling then. But the G35C does stand out. It just doesn't stand out when there's a lot of them on the road. I really do like the way the G35C looks. In fact I would've been very happy with one if it wasn't so darn common. And like I said before that's not a fault of the car. Hell the RX-8 is becoming relatively common now. In fact a few days ago I was following a Titanium RX-8 and I saw a yellow RX-8 coming down the road on the other side. That's 3 RX-8's on one road. Once they become as popular as the G35C, it'll lose it's wow factor.
But then again, you'll wow people when you open up your doors. God, I love those suicide doors. On the other hand, I don't love the fact that my mileage dropped last tank. T_T. Seriously only thing it needs is to get it's *** to ~20mpg and it's like the perfect car for me. Yeah yeah we've all heard this a million times. Just thot I'd rant a little.

Mazda is a run of the mill operation, selling cheap to moderate priced cars, and it is in the same mediocre class with similar brands. Nor is their owner, Ford, a paragon of service. All this may be opposite in Denver; I don't know. But look at nationwide data and infiniti comes out way ahead.
While I'm on the subject of service, my own reaction (fom experience with my 8 and reports on the forum) is that Mazda is trying to fix problems -- flooding and squealing brakes, for example.

Ok, I was partly trolling. Kinda bored today.
But I still stick to my opinion. Maybe the Elantra/G35 is a stretch (although I would buy an elantra over a g35 in a heartbeat).
But come on, to choose between an 8 and a g35 is silly. One is a sports car, and one is a car. A plain ol run of the mill car. That is my opinion.
What was expected?
Go onto a G35 owners forum and ask the same question. You will probably get answers like "the rx8 is a poor mans viper", "its too flashy, and mid life crises man" "I dont want to stand out thats why i bought my g35"
