Question Rx-8 Vs. Prelude

Hi guy's my name is Shawn 17 turning 18 in November and I'm looking to buy a used car towards the end of the year or closer toward the beginning of next year like january..This will be my first car and im will be recieving it from my dad as a gift i guess for my senior year in High School..I was just wondering what do you guy's think about an 04-05Rx-8 as a first car?..how about an 97-01 Prelude? Both of the cars i'm looking into getting will be manuals i LOVE them ..From what i've heard from Honda heads are rx-8's are slow but have good handling and nice looks..I dont wanna take opinions just from the opposing side but also from you all..PS this car will be used for the remainder of upcoming school year and next year to community college so would it be recommended for a college student?

Thanx,
Shawn

It's not like i'm going to be showing off in it or excessive speeding..and any car can be wrecked, it just depends on the driver..but i do truly appreciate the concern although..

rx8 is a high maintenance car, meaning it can [will] get expensive over time. also if you go to school your going to be very picky where you park, because at any school you go to there will be ******** who will want to mess with your ride.

if your looking for a car that is reliable, cheap and used as a beater get the prelude

if your looking for a car that can be reliable if you have the time and money to maintain it get the rx8

Okay cool I understand what your saying..As for the parking part i can see that too..although I my friends own real nice cars too from things like 2007 Mustang GT and 350Z..Neither of those have been messed with our deputies on campus are pretty strict on the parking lot..I think i will have enough time and money I am in the process of finding another job and after I graduate I will be staying home and going to community college for 2 years and transfering to a 4yr university..i will have 2 years or of money to save up and my dad is pretty helpful when it comes to helping me financially until i get on my own...

i guess you can call them nice cars, but i would call them "common cars"

the RX8 isnt that common. not to mention there are some douche bags out there that just like to talk **** about things they dont know.

i was in the same situation as you. although i wouldn't have gone with another car, i sometimes feel like my priorities lean toward the car more than schooling, just because i focus more on what mod to get next or what the car needs, rather than actual studying. although my grades were ok, they weren't the best i could have done.

and just because deputies on campus are pretty strict, doesn't mean they will prevent damage being done. so unless you get full coverage insurance [which probably is not cheap for your age group] there's no secure way of protecting your personal property.

Thanx..and yeah true their cars are kind of common except the 350z it's modded and has rims..I kno that no matter who you are there always will be somebody who will wanna to mess your car up..As for my insurance i think my dad is gonna pay some and i'm gonna pay some or something like that..maintaining it maybe a potential problem but not the money it's just how frequent will i have to keep it maintained more than other sport cars or about the same..I also dont wont the engine to go out after a couple k miles on it..but i can understand the priority thing too im pretty focused on my main things..the car willl stay mostly stock if i do get it except prolly air intake and exhaust later on...

Hahahahaha ryan I just referanced that photo the other day I love that pic.

And to the original poster, you r getting flamed and made a mockery of here because its just sad to compare our cars to preludes, those homda heads can stick it up their ***. Our cars r not slow especially if u compare power to weight ratio and yes they handle like a beast! If u have the money and are willing to first off read up on stickies on here and search forum for all info needed then an eight is a great bcar. Soundsvlike u have the money now just read up before more people flame u

Honda people crack me up. There's no comparison between ANYTHING FWD and an RX8. FWD = FAIL.
