Hahahahaha ryan I just referanced that photo the other day I love that pic.
And to the original poster, you r getting flamed and made a mockery of here because its just sad to compare our cars to preludes, those homda heads can stick it up their ***. Our cars r not slow especially if u compare power to weight ratio and yes they handle like a beast! If u have the money and are willing to first off read up on stickies on here and search forum for all info needed then an eight is a great bcar. Soundsvlike u have the money now just read up before more people flame u

Oh and OP I was just kidding about those cars man. You should absolutely buy one of these things...

Yea but our cars the same way, put some money into itand its faster just as any car. If u have the money to properly mai.tain a car then eights r great, try for lower mileage, 2005 and up (06 is the best year to try for in my opinion), make sure to get service records, try buying one on here from someone who really cares about their car.
That's all the advice I have for now, I work overnights to pay for my 8 that's how much I love it.
Oh and I'm 20 and this was basically my first car as well. Great first xar, just b smart and dont drive like a jackass. Oh and 19mpg can b a bitch but its worth it lol

To the OP: Do a **** load of research on the actual fundamentals on the RX-8 (not the opinions of people who don't know **** about an RX-8). Read professional reviews and watch videos from KNOWLEDGEABLE resources/people (Try Top Gear on BBC, reviews on Motor Trend, SEARCH on here, etc.) and AFTER doing a **** LOAD of research, come back.

No one buys a Honda on purpose. They get them handed down from parents or grandparents. Then they work overtime on convincing their friends that "No man, Honda's are the best!"
Seriously. No one who knows cars would pick an Integra, or a Civic. Front wheel drive sucks. It's for inattentive idiots who can't or won't be bothered learning how to actually drive. Honestly, how many of those morons at your school are driving automatics too?

Topgear ftw.. but yeah. Do your own research on the cars your looking at.. don't let people spoon feed u some bs. If possible test drive all cars your considering and go from there.

They make it "seem" as if the rx-8 is like a bus compared to Evo haha..What's the most expensive thing to get fixed on a rx-8 on a regular?..Im pretty sure it's less expensive then keeping up an Audi,VW,BMW or Mercedes
Alright thanx for all the help..but @Psylence thats funny u say that..out those dudes that said something..only one of them actually owns a manual trans car haha..i personally think Honda's are a lil overated..okay maybe alot lol..but i will agree with them they do produce good cars..the best? No..as far as power goes Honda's are limited...

Now you're comparing it to an Evo? Look I don't think the RX-8 is your kinda car kid... it's a true sports car, not a numbers car. It's for car enthusiasts to enjoy, not for ricers or big numbers guys.

No no no..you misunderstanding what i'm saying..im not comparing it to an Evo i know that an Evo is one of the best all around stock cars being made..I'm saying the people i've heard from make it seem like rx-8's are as slow as a bus being COMPARED to an EVO..im not comparing an Evo to an 8..Im just tryna sayin that those guys say that it's slow..which in all actuality they own the VERY cars they would classify as slow...

Like I said I wouldnt be racing it..just a day to day driver who will have a lil fun it time to time..maybe i'll take it on the track oneday when i get used to it..but i wouldnt be surprised if i got beat in numbers stock..on course or something different story...

Well in that case, if you're still considering it, do as I said and research the car a **** load. Just not on the honduh forums. And come back with any questions you have that aren't already answered on this forum and just about any question you could possibly have about an RX-8 is answered somewhere on this site. As you can see I only have a little over 300 posts over the course of two years because I search more than I ask and I almost ALWAYS find my answer by searching.

Sjohn1107 you seem like a level headed guy. I will tell you that as a former Evo owner current Rx-8 owner that if your goal is to have the fastest car out there it's definitely not the right car to go for. If you are doing it for the driving experience it's a great car. There are family sedans with a v-6 slapped in them that will accelerate as fast as or faster than the 8 but to be honest you won't find very many cars that communicate with the driver as well as the 8. The power delivery is smooth and you can feel if the car is about to get away from you (that's if you are an attentive driver though). Honestly, I would say that those that say test drive both and make a determination from there are right. If your ego is not tied up in impressing anyone then the 8 is a pleasure. There are a lot of people out there that will knock the 8 for it's lack of reliability and it's power. My 8 had a problem in which it was smoking heavily in the morning. A friend and her so called "gear head" friend saw me one morning and noted that it was smoking. Her friend told her that's just how rotaries are (implying that they are crap). When she talked to me and found out the truth behind it I explained to her that at that time I already knew what the problem was...it was a clogged cat. I replaced that cat and the problem is gone. These are the types of experiences you will have with the 8 (or most rotary cars for that matter). People judging based on their supposed expertise on things that they honestly know little to nothing about. Dont buy this car if you don't have thick skin...don't buy this car if you fear being a little bit more diligent in checking your oil...don't buy this car if you are worried about fuel economy. Just do the research and make the best decision for you. Good luck and I hope you get the car that makes you happy!

But if you think it's one of the best all all around car, that's not wrong, but does give away what you look for in a car.
Since you're 17, I'm sure a circuit track isn't your thing, straight away speed is probably more your thing, there's no shame in it, you're still 17.
With that said, Prelude is actually slower than the RX-8, even though RX-8 is pretty anemic straight line. I'd recommend a MazdaSpeed 3 or a WRX (non-STi).

I dislike how many people on this forum are quick to point younger people away from RX-8's. It's ridiculous.
If you like the look, feel, style, performance and price of the RX-8 over the Prelude...then get it. If you prefer the Prelude then get that.
Personally....I would get the RX-8. You will be fine. The "M" word (maintenance) that people keep trying to scare you with is really nothing at all. A couple extra oil tops ups every so often and you're pretty much good to go.
Search through the forums, there is a ton of info....there is also a ton of bullshit. As you can see most of the posts on this thread are sarcastic. Don't take their advice or posts to heart.
Get the 8, treat her right, and get the girl

^I think most people deter the 8 for young drivers because 99% of the time its a matter of when, not if, for a major wreck from a young new driver. This is the reason why people suggest a beater car however being 17 and contemplating an 8 I'm sure your parents are buying it and not you, which means they dont want you to have a beater. Get the car that you want, there are positives and negatives to every car you just have to research them and determine which work for you and no one else.

Also Keep in Mind that the car doesn't make the driver
the driver makes tha car.
So many cars out there i've try to be cool and they are jokes
the 8 is one of a kind even stock it can haul some ***
