RX-8 vs. Semis
Well, I have now had two (2) accidents in the last 2.5 months with my 8.
First Accident - Driving up I-95 at app. 55 mph in the far right hand lane of a 6 lane highway. 18 wheeler decided to come drift over in my lane and his front right tire and lug nuts grinded up against my rear drivers side quarter panel, wheel, and rear drivers side door (essentially stopping my back wheel). This almost forced me into a concrete barrier, but I was able to control the car. The worst part about it was he didnt even know he hit me. I had to run him down and force him off the road to get him to stop. When I pulled up along side of him he was on his cell...All in all app. 2500 k in damage.
Second Accident - Driving down highway at about 65 mph at about 6:30 am to work (dark out) on cruise control, when I came upon a large retreaded 18 wheeler tire laying in the middle of the road. I responded as quickly as I could, swerving to the left of a 4 lane highway (I was in the far left hand lane). When I swerved I partially went onto a grassy shoulder. I almost cleared the tire, but the tire in the road caught a hold of my front right tire. This cause my back end to slide out onto the wet shoulder (dew in the morning) and I lost control of the car. I ended up spinning across the highway going off the right shoulder and towards a ditch. Luckily it was all grass and I did not hit anything. The worst part about this accident was the fact that an 18 wheeler was driving right next to me at the time. As I spun from the left shoulder to the right shoulder, I crossed app. 10 feet in front of him going 65 mph. He was unable to stop (laid some serious tire) and nearly missed t-boning or running over me. The worst part about it was seeing the 18 wheelers lights out of the corner of my eye coming at me as I spun across his lane...I thought that was it... He never even stopped.
Minor damage from the tire in the road is all I incurred - scuffed front right bumper, broken plastic clips in my wheel well and a slight leak on my drivers side rear tire.
I hope this trend ends soon...

tbh i've had more close calls in this car where it was some other dumbasses fault then any other vehicle I've owned (I'm 20...and this is my 5th). I've been pretty damn careful in this car, and just last night I was driving in my lane and my buddy saw some ricer dude try to fly past me and came inches within hitting me.

Actually now that you mention it, I have noticed a trend of complete idiots driving like crazy around me in my 8. I've had two "near-miss" experiences with people swerving in front of me and cutting me off at high speed almost causing a devastating accident. I've been very fortunate that I was coherent enough to avoid the collision and the car was agile enough to respond to my panicked reactions safely. It doesn't help though that the 8 has HUGE blind spots blocking off the corners from the B-pillars... I check, and double-check before merging.
