Question RX-8's in Texas?

I just got back to work and a friend of mine told me that his brother saw RX-8's in the showroom in Dallas Texas. I told him he was full of it, that it hasn't even been introduced yet at the NAIAS. We called him and he confirmed it.

Is he telling the truth, or is he full of it? I dont know how they can have RX-8's on the showroom floor when it has not even been introduced at the NAIAS.

Boowana, You're in Texas, do you know the skinny?

Maybe mistaken

He might be mistaken or some big Mazda dealer pulled some strings to be able to display a preproduction model in the showroom just to draw some traffic. I have seen very good condition 3rd gen RX-7's in showrooms that look absolutely new.

Production is not suppose to start until Feb of 2003.

NOT!

There are NO RX-8s in Texas. If there was one, it would be in my garage. :D

Question Update

Ok, heard back from the guy

He didnt know the name of the dealership, but he said it is in Plano Texas. Below is a quote from the e-mail.

"FYI this RX-8 is not the new RX-7.. totally different, the 8 is the toned down version and it only hits about 220 hp (no turbo, and tuned down engine to increase fuel efficiency, and no sport suspension, it basically just looks fast kinda like a eclipse)"

If the car is in the showroom, and can be test driven, and he got that kind of information, I think either the salesman is feeding him a line about the RX-8, or he is definately talking about the 6. We shall see, thanks for all the help you guys have given.

he said it kinda looks like the eclipse, well the when i saw the tail ligths of the rx-01 i thought of an eclipse! so maybe the guy saw the rx-01 and thought it was an rx-8, but since rx-01 is only a prototype i dont it was there, so watever ohh yeah and he also said that it had 220 hp, the rx-01 also has 220 hp!

O.k. how many Plano Mazda dealers are there

I'm in Flower Mound (north of DFW airport) and work in downtowm Dallas ... I'll try and find out what is there in my spare time (as long as the wife and kids will want to go up to Plano for a field trip)

:p
