RX-Probe

A colleague insisted that the rear of the RX-8 and the rear of the Ford Probe are very similar. I disagreed and decided to create a comparison image whereupon I changed my mind. A definite similarity do you think?

I must be blind, 'cause I don't see it. I see more differences than similarities.

I'm not saying they're identical and obviously the lights are different but the bumper shape and the general contours? Oh well, maybe it was just passing madness.

Lensman it was passing maddness. They look nothing alike. The probe has full lenght taillight that are 3 inches from the bumper, the RX has twin taillights that are almost flush with the bumper. It's ok thought we all have our moments of maddness. It helps keep us sane

I totally see it. They both have a spoiler, exhaust pipe, bumper, badging, liscence plate, brake lights, window... I can go on.

The similarities are uncanny :p

I was tring to post earlier but the sever was so slow that it kept loging me out - and RotorGeek beat me to the punch ...

... but this is what I was going to say:

:p

Sorry, I really don't see it either ...

As I've posted elsewhere, I do love the Probe's design (Personally I perfere the first generation's looks and details - which does have a rear middle brake light in the same place as the RX-8 - over the last ) and I'm also smitten with the RX-8's style ... but other than the slight resemblence to the rear bumper and the wraparound rear tail lights around the sides, IMHO that's not enough similarities for me.

But if the RX-8 was more of a fastback and/or the taillights covered the full length of the back of the car like the Probe did ...

... anyway, all in all I'm a fan of both cars. I owned a Probe for 13 years - I hope that when I get my RX-8 it will last as long ...

:D

well, with all due respect, to some people (with less discerning eyes) all cars look the same =P

By best friend in Colorado agrees with you, he just get a 1994 Probe GT. (... but, I still miss my 1990 ...)

I'm sure we'll agree that the 8 probably resembles the S2000 from the rear the most..

I see the simularity, the Probe looks like, resembles, well a Ford Probe. And the RX-8, looks just like a Mazda RX-8. I see it, don't you?

Just kiddin! Really don't see it.

If you think about it a lot of cars out there have similarities. I mean if you think about it the probes rear kinda also looks just like that of the Lexus SC400(did I get that name right? oh well). I mean look at all the wagons and hatchbacks out there. Or say the SUV's. And whats up with all these car companies going retro with the design.

J Lo and Anne Heche have more similar rear-ends than the 8 and the probe...

... and also takes some inspiration from the front too ... (plus similar low torque)

Still, I love that middle brake light design on the S2000.

Not actually mine -- but identical year and color -- didn't have a good pic of mine to attach without scanning and prep work -- found this one on ebay.

(79' White 4-speed manual :D -- the 4-speed is faster than the 5-speed as one of my disappointed friends discovered much to his surprise)
