RX7 vs RX8?

I think there is a company that has done it for the R34 Skyline GT-R, but haven't heard of place that handles JDM FDs.

Please do not start this again with the rx-7 board. There is no reason to cause issues AGAIN. This has been brought up countless times on here (almost as much as the MPG threads) and REALLY doesn't need to start up again.

We have a local meet every month for rotorheads. One of the local guys from the 7 board started it on the 7 board and posted on our board. The only competition is to see who has a better turnout. Otherwise its just a bunch of rotoraholics getting together. Good info flows back and forth about all generations of the rotary.

Also, if that doesnt really work, i have a few family members in the army that would gladly help me out and some of them are in Tokyo. The best way to import and get a street legal FD is to get someone in the military to import it for you. Well, those are my two options at the moment.
If there was an easy cost efficient way, many folks (including myself), might opt for a late model '99-'02 JDM FD RX-7. But to my knowledge, it's very difficult and quite costly. That's why almost everyone is riding around in their old 13 year old FDs and the majority of them have now been beaten to death with mods, engine rebuilds, and god knows what else.
I'd love to get my hands on a prestine '02 Spirit R or Type RZ or even a Bathurst Type R. But the simplest way I know of is to move to Japan.

How do you plan to do that? I don't mean to sound like a skeptic, just very curious.

I'm currently an FC owner. I commute everyday and whenever I see an RX7, I would chase it down just to say wassup. One day, I saw a nice RX8 after I exited the freeway. He was getting gas. I stopped by and we had a small chit chat. He told me that he bought the car for primary its looks (OF ALL THINGS )
The way he was talking to me, you can tell that he was a first time rotary owner. He took one look at my car and had a look on his face like he didn't know what car I had. I told him I worked on FCs and FD on side and his face went blank for a second. Like he didn't know what FCs and FDs stand for. My point is, not all rx8 are rotary people. I stopped chasing down RX8's because when I come up next to one, they give me a cold shoulder. SO I GAVE UP! From now on, I'll wait for an RX8 to come chase me down.

Well I just read the thread "RX-8 to RX-7"on the RX-7 Forum. I think those of you who think RX-7 owners are elitist or look down on the RX-8 have mis-interpreted. Read it! Most 7 owners were envious of the 8 owner!
Just because we say (and know) the 3rd gen is faster and more powerful, doesn't mean we don't like the 8. The 8 is a great car, handles at least as well as a 3rd gen, has a much nicer transmission, has room for passengers, and is a modern fully integrated electronic car!

I love RX-7s....no doubt about that...I was even thinking about purchasing one over my 8 (i thought mine was sexier...and had 2 more seats ) but a lot of people don't see how modern our rotary is...their engine is twin turboed and our engine does not have a stock turbo...the 8s are still running 5.9s 0-60 (don't burn me for this...road and track magazine...just stating someone else's testing) this is what amazes me about this car...no turbo...an incredibly small engine and still pushing 238hp...i know RX-7s are faster...but if i was twin turboed...i wonder who'd be faster

There are ignorant and immature folks who drive both cars, so I suppose that's why we get such views from both 8 and 7 owners. However, it's rare that anyone on this forum does any hating on the RX-7. Everyone loves the FD. The same can't be said of some RX-7 owners about the 8.
Maybe we 8 owners aren't so anxious to hunt down FDs to say "hi" for fear that they'll interpret things wrongly and choose to blow our 4 doors off.

I don't even acknowledge other 8 drivers. It's just a car. OK, so the other 8 driver bought the same car as me. So what? Can he/she heel and toe? Is that other 8 driver a decent human being? What about their politics? Do they cheat on their significant others? Beat their dogs? Could be. I just get my kicks with the car by myself and leave it at that. It's like when I had a Porsche, BMW, or Audi. I wouldn't do the flash the headlights at intersections or sign the other person. That's cheesy as hell. It's just a car. Who cares what the RX-7 drivers think. I don't even care what other RX-8 drivers think.

Hell, I think I've seen more Ferraris than I have FDs. I've never got acknowledged from another RX-8 (or other RX) owner on the road. I usually look over and they're not looking so I just continue driving. (Of course, they probably looked over after I gave up on them and thought "cold shoulder!")
I've been acknowledged by someone at the gas station who gave me a thumbs up and when I gave him a confused look pointed to his RX-8 he was walking to. And I told this guy I parked next to with a white RX-8 "Nice car" and he just gave me a confused awkward nod of his head.

Had a 93 FD R1 RX-7
Have a 05 RX-8 GT
I cry when I think about not having my FD. It was the most beautiful car I have ever seen and went like a bat out of hell. I love my RX-8 too. It reminds me of my FC GXL 2+2. The FD and RX-8 are totally different cars each with thier own merits.
Any FD owners out there should pray the RX-8 does well, or we will never see another RX-7 again. Plus every one know "If it ain't a rotor it ain't motor!"

As a long-time owner of a 3rd gen 7, I have to say that 7 owners tend to be snobby even amongst themselves. The "old-school" doesn't appreciate the fact that the "new-school" is buying up their cars and "ricing" them out... Personally, I don't acknowledge either car unless I'm in the paddock at the track, too frequently it turns into a street-light race which is just pointless.

Well I'm an owner of an 88 S4 FC (Non-Turbo'd) being restored, 93 TT Touring RX7 (maybe selling soon to buy a 93 TT Champion Yellow Mica Efini RX7) and an 04 RX8. I love all 3 cars, and I'm going to be looking for an FB when I have the room to park 4 cars lol. Each car is completely different, each has their upside, and downside. You know what though I respect each and every rotary car out there, all the way back to the RX2, and even the rotary power truck that mazda once made. But if the RX7 guys want to hate, then let em, but when my RX8 is hanging with the RX7's then maybe that'll catch their attention. MAUHAHAHAHAHA, my 8 is coming for you 7's, lol. Still respect ya'll guys, but gotta put ya'll in your place lol.
