get a carfax, make sure all recalls were done and all maintenance was on time, like coils, plugs, oil changes, differential fluid, tranny fluid...then go from there

No offense dozer, but I have to disagree. My 04 has been maintained meticulously and always ran perfect. At 68,000 miles it started stalling at stop lights once in a while. The fix... new (remaufactured) motor. Thank God for the 100,000 mile warranty extension. I recieved the letter from Mazda while my car was at the dealer waiting for the motor to arrive. We were "discussing" who would be paying the bill up to that point.

It's like a hit or miss with these cars, some motors will last forever, others will die prematurely.

Thumbs up

I have 108K on my '04 and have had no major problems. Just normal wear and tear. I have never babied it or abused it. Just drive it like a sports car.

My 2004 was going strong at 109000 when.....

a 16 year old girl in a big SUV plowed into me and totaled my Lightning Yellow 8.

I bought it new and maintained it well, always using Castrol 5w20, never any did a premix.

Yellow was the only color I really wanted for the 8. I did a search and found 3 in a 500 mile radius of Chicago and finally decided on a low mileage 2004, in Yellow.

Now I'm back with only 34,000 miles on the odometer, looking forward to many more troublefree miles.
