The RX8

The RX8
Hey guys i am car shopping. I was thinking of getting the Evo MR edition, then it was the 06 STI. But when i seen the RX8 It looked really nice, i really like the interior. Plus it is alot cheaper then the evo and sti. Plus i think the rx8 can come with a automatic transmission(i could be wrong.). How do you guys like your RX8? Do you guys think it would be a better idea then a Evo or STI?

trust me, if your in the market for evo's and sti's, you don't want an automatic. even the manual is pretty slow. i used to have a 365whp car and now my rx8 has about half the whp. but it is still worth it because it is beautiful and handles better than any other cars i've drove. i don't race anymore anyway.

I'll save you a lot of searching and computer time: if, like most Evo and STI buyers, you cherish push-you-back-in-the-seat acceleration, don't get an 8.
If, on the other hand, you appreciate smoothness, balance, handling and, most of all, fck'in amazing "feel"—get one. The practicality and bargain price are just gravy.
(BTW, most people aren't big on the auto tranny. It's slower and less fun. At least a couple of people have actually theirs in for 6-speeds.)

Hey guys
I'm kind of in the same situation. I've been looking at the RX8 and ive fallen in love with it. The reviews of its great handling and great feel really makes me consider getting one.
Anyways, I only have one question on this, how much hp does a stock 2004/2005 RX8 make? I've been looking around and some site says it has 238hp, while others say it only has 198hp (this is on manual tranny btw.). so yeh, can you guys enlighten me on this? or is the 238hp RX8 only on the GT version?
well thanks for any replies guys!

It depends on what you are looking for if you are looking for something that will go 0-60 fast go with the evo or STI. But if you want a sweet ride and one of the best cornering ability go with the RX-8, and if you look on car and driver every year that the RX-8 has been out it has been on the top 10 so look around and see what you think.

Zepplin I was in the same market of cars as you are in when I was car shopping. My first choice was the Evo, second was sti and third was Rx8. In the end I got the Rx8 because it was cheaper on my wallet which means extra cash to mod the car and the insurance was the cheapest. What also sold me on the car was how refined the interior was as opposed to the Evo and Sti which felt like I was riding in an economy car. Also, the ride in the Evo and STI wasn't as smooth as the Rx8.
However if performance is what you're strictly looking for then I would suggest buying the EVO or STI because thats what those car do best and was basically built to do. If you want something more balanced then I would suggest a Rx8.

Your interest in the automatic suggests that you don't know how to drive a stick. If that is so, then my strongest advice to you is:
*Regardless* of which car you buy, get a manual transmission and learn how to drive it. It's way more fun; the vast majority of those who can drive both prefer stick. Whichever car you choose is a decision that will effect you for a couple years, but learning to drive stick is a gift you give yourself for the rest of your life.
It's not that hard to do. Get someone to give you a lesson for an hour or two, and you'll be able to do it; after a week or two, you'll be able to do it pretty comfortably. After a year, it will be like breathing.

The EVO and STI will give you push in the back acceleration, and smoothness, balance, handling, and most of all, fck'in amazing feel. Try driving a friends STI and EVO sometime The best bang for the buck track car.
The difference is, the RX-8 is more refined(compare the interiors), not as harsh a ride, and daily drive ability.

I can't speak to the MT, but I have an 05 GT AT and really enjoy it. When I want to play, I get the enjoyment of using the paddle shifters, and the convienence of the automatic when I don't. But I have a kind of unique situation - I needed the AT because of some health issues. I wanted a car with great handling, a decent ride, easy to drive, comfortable seats, decent reliability, and with good styling. When I researched more and more and found out about the uniqueness of the rotary engine, I decided it was the car for me.

If you are in the market for an auto the eight has the nice feature of paddles on the steering wheel for shifting. The '06 I believe has the same engine as the GT now so the horsepower at the wheels is close to the manual.
Definely drive them to figure it out though. I test drove the auto first in '04 when the engines were less compared to the manual and there was no contest I had to get a manual. If it is how it is now I may have gotten the auto for my wife's sake. Poor gal she has never been able to drive my car since she is afraid of learning on it.

So you are thinking of getting a STI or EVO yet you want an auto, I can understand people getting an auto 8 but I can't dig an auto STI or EVO since most that went for them wanna jerk (or jack) themselves off in their seat by shifting.

Why doesn't anyone ever mention the Mustang GT? It's got TORQUE! and It's no where near as ugly as the Evo or STI. I'd also bet it more tunable then either of the other cars.
Or are American cars passe?

Yeah what he said
"The price tag might be a little steep for some buyers, but consider the fact that a well-equipped Mustang GT can be purchased for around $25,000, then factor in the cost of the Vortech kit, and you have yourself a 400-hp stallion for about $30 grand"
I I priced the Vortech at 3500 not 4k.
I'll say this again. It's not ugly like those other two cars

If you want torque, go for STi, if you want style and handling and are not overly concerned about 0-60 then get an A/T Rx-8. I've driven both A/T and M/T and they are both real nice, the M/T is about a second faster 0-60. You'll learn to appreciate the car no matter what transmission you get. I bought an A/T in June 2005 and I love it.

Question...why would you be looking at an EVO MR or STi and then even consider an AUTO RX-8? That is just silly. Not even in the same league...what are you thinking? Seriously.
IMHO
Mustang = crap
GTO = crap
But then again I hate all domestics except the C6 vette.
If you want a beautiful, great handling car, with great brakes get a 6-speed Sport package RX-8. Stereo, interior, and paint are also nicer in the RX-8.
If you want raw power, throw you back in your seat, AWD, great handling 4 door car with excellent brakes and nice BBS wheels go for the STi but be prepared for the harsh ride and higher price tag.
I went for the RX-8 because of the smoothness of the engine, the transmission feel, and the incredible handling. But honestly if the price was the same (got my 2005 RX-8 sport for $20,000 with 3k on the clock)...I would have bought an STi.

Ill admit it heh i dont know how to drive stick. Thats why was thinking the rx8 because its automatic. And it is a very nice looking car. Inside and out. Im debating on if i should spend 30k for a car and not know how to drive it home lol. It seems like every car i like is Stick(evo, sti, gti, srt4)
