Again, late on replying to the post, but I have to agree with everyone. Driving my 8 is more fun than any car I have ever owned. I think that is what it comes down to. If we all drove WRX's it would be a boring world, and the tree huggers wouldn't have Hybrids to pay too much for. (Sorry had to take that jab) Like pretty much everyone one else has said, get your RX8 and love it like it's your only child.

j/k man.. i just couldn't help it. To stay on topic, I love my 8. I have a lot of friends who have STi's and EVO's, and, while they are faster, they don't look ANYTHING like the 8. They seem much less comfortable, and have much less impressive interiors. I didn't buy my car simply to go fast, heck, I spend a lot of time in traffic, strolling at 35mph. But hey, at least I'm comfortable and look damn good! (oh yeah, the car too)

Most of the time popular magazines compare the RX-8 with something else, I see the same trend. While in the "objective" (1/4 mile, skidpad, etc) part the RX-8 stays slightly (slightly) behind (except in slalom of course), in the "subjective" score it totally outpaces anything, usually giving it first place.
I think this translates well in reality - when I was shoping around, I wasn't totally impressed by the RX-8 numbers (esp. since I heard about the 12-14mpg horror stories), but when I test drove it I knew that was the car I was looking for.

Fortunately, my rx8 is too sophisticated to engage in such discussions. If not, it would suggest that he try reving his wrx to 9000rpm and try to keep count of the parts flying through the hood.

It's been my experience that these types of people like to get the last word. When they make such a comment, take the high road. Say something in a sincere tone like ,"Yeah, you're probably right. By the way thats a really great ride you have. Enjoy it." Then smile and just walk away. It shuts them up. They spend the rest of the time thinking if you were being being sincere or just messing with him. No matter, he'll feel like **** once he realizes what an *** he's been.

I will never argue that the 8 should be endowed with more torque and horsepower if it is to be more competitive on acceleration comparisons, but that's just too difficult to accomplish with a naturally aspirated 13B. As long as the car looks good and feels good, I for one am content. It shouldn't be difficult at all to guess that most cars weighing around 3000lbs with more than 240hp and/or 160lb-ft of torque will be "faster" than the RX-8.
People who buy family/commuter sedans, suvs, trucks, and luxury cars probably never get such rude comments like "my so and so will dust your so and so". What's the big deal?

Just about every sport compact or sportscar car board out there has people that bash the RX-8 and every other car for that matter, but the RX-8 takes more heat because of the hp fiasco and it's average acceleration numbers. Also because it's the new kid on the block so the other kids are ganging up on it :p Most of the people that bash it have never driven it and don't understand the merits of a nimble well balanced RWD car, they just see some acceleration numbers and heard about the HP thing and go by that. There's also some people out there that are disappointed in it because of what the FD was capable of so the RX-8 is a letdown.
On the other hand there are plenty of RX-8 owners that bash others cars and for a time there this site was full of haters of things not RX-8 though a lot of them seem to have gone away. So I just don't see how you can wonder why other car owners bash the RX-8 when many people on this board bash the cars you've listed.
As for the RX-8 being a better car in every way save for acceleration that's simply not true. The EVO, WRX, and STi have AWD so are better for people in bad cliamtes, they have more rear seat room, are true sedans, more trunk room, the EVO and STi are faster in the Slalom, faster in every form of acceleration test, and are about equal in braking and skidpad. In addition they are far more mod friendly, have huge aftermarket support, and it's very cheap to get big gains out of. They are also great if you want to partcipate in rally events which many of the owners do. The G35 and Z are just for people looking for more torque and more speed, and also for those people that value looks over everything else and just feel the Z or G looks best.
Basicly the RX-8 is NOT better in every way save for the 1/4 mile, it might be better for you but clearly not for others. Which brings me to it being a great time to be a car enthusiast because we have such great cars to compare, bash, argue about, and sing the praises of. 10 years ago we wouldn't have had the luxury to even have a discussion like this because there just weren't that many great cars at a reasonable price to choose from.

I don't buy Kool-Aid
What I dont get is this one guy bought a blue 350-Z loaded in Sport Compact Car and payed $40K+ to get 40 more HP?. That to me is just a joke... I dont know one rally car owner who inters there car in a rally event. All the STI guys I know are show an shine. The RX-8 IMO is not a fast car but a very comfortable sports car. We picked looks over beauty.
