Thumbs down RX8 Broken Into :(

Hello Everyone,

Last week I had my RX8 Broken into... Of course I don't usually leave anything in my car so all they stole was the garage door opener to my condo, no big deal.

What pissed me off was what they did to get into the car.... It looks like they either kicked or hit the door with something. There was a huge dent right above the door handle which totally sucks cause I had to pay a 300 deductible in my insurance to get fixed. Has anyone else had their RX8 broken into in that way? I've been hearing that Mazda's have been getting broken into by smashing above the door handle as it disables the alarm and unlocks the door. Just curious if anyone has heard of anything like that?

The Dr. has arrived.

First let me say: I'm sorry to hear this happend, I will admit it I was just to the point of tears when I found out my RX8 was broken into. Refer to this thread I made (with pics) to show you what kind of damage i got.

https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/violated-so-violated-100391/

was any glass broken? From what you typed it only seems like there is a dent? I had my driver side rear little window smashed out, and my entire rear window smashed out and my briefcase stolen that had a very expensive laptop inside. (in the process denting and scratching my left rear door and my trunk all up, oh yes and they ripped a leather seat)

I know you don't want to hear it but you got off easy if all you had to pay was 300 dollars. Not counting the 3K worht of stuff they stole - total bill for me was $3,300 dollars in repairs (and then factor in the laptop) talk about suck. Good thing is: insurance covered all but a few hundred of the car, the laptop is still up in the air.

Change your garage door opener/locks and hopefully they wont come back. It's alwasy sad to see fellow people go thru the same stuff you did. I hope everything works out, i hate theives.

Mr burglar here.
So let me get this straight. If I log onto rx8club.com, I can find out how to disable someones alarm and break into the car? That is great!!!! That is so good for every crook to know. I need to get the word out.

Thank you,
Signed

Your local crook

hmm i kinda got my car broken into the first week i got my car.
i saw him through the recorded camera (unfortunately, i can't catch him), he was some drunk dude.
i don't know where he got it, but he smashed my windows with a used car battery.
my windows were smashed and had battery acid all over the side of my car.
nd even now i have 2-3 quarter dents on the side of my door.

I would wait for the person too show up at my house and try breaking in. I'm pretty good at swinging a bat.

What does the U.S. law say about killing a burglar? I wanna know how much damage you can legitimately deal to the person without getting penalized.

Just found an interesting bit of law, called "Stand Your Ground", which is based on the Castle Doctrine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand-your-ground_law

I know that the United Kingdom and South Korea have a similar law. It looks tough to apply the law to cars unless the burglar is sitting in it.

If u're living in a house with garage opener, its easy as hell to disable the one they stole, all you gotta do is to reset the crap and that would be it.

but if u're living in a condo ..... its better to let management know about this because they're going to open the garage door and look for other victims .

damn it sucks everytime I see these theif thing. it makes me want to hang all these **** everytime I see them ....

umm i wouldnt get any legal advice about what you can do to people on the forums or you are asking to go jail. Castle doctrine depends on state or local goverment and your car isnt your castle unless it is in the garage(even then its ifie in alot areas-YAHOO for liberal retards)

Your best bet is let them go unless you are in texas or Florida where they have laws you can shoot people just for looking at you funny.

Thanks for the reply's everyone... Toxin, Man they did a number on your car..that really sucks!!

I attached a couple pictures of the damage, all in all came to a total bill of 1250 to fix the dent and I paid the deductible. Also attached a pic of what my car looks like after it was fixed, finally back and looks like new!!

Here in texas at least - if someone breaks into your house you have the right to kill them. This is coming from personal research and a few retired cops I know that I work with. Logic being:

Its 3am - you hear a smash, all you know someone is in your house that has no legal right to be there. What are they there to do? Just steal a TV? Tie you up and torture you? Kill you? Rape your wife or children? The point is you don't know. And to be honest with you even if it WAS illegal to use deadly force to defend your home or apartment, I would'nt care, I still would unload a nice 12guage slug into their chest. You don't play around when it comes to the safety of yourself or your wife/kids/family. I would gladly kill some lowlife scumbag that broke in if it meant the safety of myself and others.

From what I understand (i havent taken my concealed handgun license class yet), but if you feel your life is in danger you have the legal right to use deadly force. Now if someone broke into your car and is running aaway you can't shoot them in the back or anything like that. But if someone is coming at you with a baseball bat, tire iron or in any situation where you could be put into life threatening danger, you are then acting in self defense and can't be charged.

Thats one thing that's nice about texas - we take guns and self defense very seriously. A man's home is is castle if he cant defend it there will be a lot of people moving out of this country if that was ever the case.

^^^^^^^^^ Yep.

Texas is the most 'defend your home/property' friendly state in the union. You can shoot first and ask questions later if someone breaks into your house. There are all kinds of other caveats to the law that applies to your land and person as well - I don't know all the details of the rest of them. Pretty safe to say if you screw with someone in Texas they can shoot you for it and most likely get off with little or no penalty. If people were more responsible with guns I would be all for that type of law in all 50 states.

Sucks to hear that your cars were broken into guys. That's never fun. Every vehicle I've owned has been broken into once. They stole car audio equipment and other misc stuff out of the cars and actually tried to steal my Toyota Tacoma (less than a week after I brought it home!).

I know in VA the person has to be in the house before you defend your property. I know a guy who was into martial arts. Some guy was climbing into his kitchen window and he kicked him in face. The burgular fell back outside and the guy I know called the cops. When the cops arrived they found the burgular laying in the yard. Well when it went to court the burgular won and pressed charges against the guy I know for assult. Noone could prove the burgular was in the house at the time. Since the guy I know was a black belt and had not been registered with the local police dept he got jail time for assult with a deadly weapon. He told me next time he will drag the person into the house before calling the cops. The burgular was left with a fractured scull....so he did get something.

remind me never to move to VA - thats retarded - if they guy was 1/2 way in, wasnt proof of a broken window there?

I dont think I could ever live in a state that wasnt somewhat on par with texas self defense laws. I take pride in knowing that if someone is stupid enough to break into my HOME of all places, they are stupid enough to be killed, end of story.

It's true people arent NEAR as responsible with guns as they should be, but here in texas I hope the thought that goes into every burgler's mind before he breaks into a house is "okay am I going to die tonight trying to ripoff some cheap **** from this house"

I feel for ya bro. So did those dudes show up to your house yet? I'm thinking that I will go out and program my HomeLink now, instead of having my door opener on my visor.
