Is the RX8 the car for me?

You're probably better off with an Infinity then the RX8 if you can't deal with the powerband of a rotary.
If you like Mazda products try an AWD CX7. More bottom end torque then you'll need and it both drives and handles a little better then a 350Z. Just doesn't stop as quick.

Nope, sorry your wrong. Even if I was, why reply and have nothing to say. Sure some people ask redundant questions but isn't that how forums grow. Comments like the one you just made are the ones that stunt the growth of forums.

dude, if you think the rx8 is 'slow', then don't buy it. Buy a mustang or a z, theyll FEEL faster to you. If u look at numbers, the 8 isn't "slow", 159 ft lbs of torque is weak. I mean do u want a car that feels fast or actually is fast. U want speed, buy a used C5 or GTO. All these cars aren't cheap so my opinion is find something u like and feel comfortable buying and don't rely on a bunch of bored guys at work that are looking on an rx8 forum on a computer at their desk for answers

Nope, noobies such as yourself do nothing but retard (a very fitting word...) the growth of forums because you do nothing but clutter it up with the same crap over and over and over again. Have some respect for the people that have been here a long time helping others and at least make a tiny bit of effort to do your own research. If you have questions after that, post away and I'm sure people will be willing to help.

I just traded in my 2007 GTI with DSG. It was chipped so much quicker than the RX-8, but overall, I like the RX-8 better. 9,000 RPMs, sweet manual, RWD, and the good looks. Oh yes, did I say RWD. I miss it soooo much, it's okay it's not as quick. The GTI is awesome for a FWD car, interior, handling, DSG was cool but I got sick of it. However the FWD was not for me.

from reading id say the best choice for you is a used gto 2005
+, you should be able to get one with under 30,000 miles in the low 20's........its rwd and fast a hell.....youll pretty much own the road ,except for heavily modded cars or vettes.......and youll get better mpg than an 8.......but i wouldnt take it to autox

Thank you guys for convincing me that the 8 is the car for me. You all think like I do. I pick it up on Wednesday.
Sure, the first time I'm at a stop light against a Mustang it'll suck, but that's not the point.

I know the RX8 isn't all about power. A car should be balanced with power, handling, price, weight etc... With this motor this car doesn't even come close. I read about how people are happy with their power but I can't help but think they've never driven anything else.
I'm looking for a nicely balanced car. Isn't everyone? Maybe this isn't the car for me.
Comments??
My first serious car, was a 1993 Audi S4, that could probably crash through the 1/4 mile in about 13.5 seconds. Definitely a very fast, and fun car when on boost. Go speed parts were relatively inexpensive in relation to how much power they delivered. It was a greatly fast car, that otherwise, the car felt like a large barge
The next car was a 1995 M3 with substantially more torque than the RX-8, and a little more power, as my car was chipped, had an intake, and exhaust. I bought this because I made the mistake of autocrossing the UrS4. I wanted something that could handle the turns, and for me, that meant sacrificing speed.
Then the M3 started to show its age. It slowly fell apart of the course of the year. It was expensive to keep it as a daily driver and as my weekend track toy.
This is why I own my RX-8. It's brand spankin new (or was), with warranty. I am not a mechanic, as my past two german cars have taught me. Moreover, the RX-8 is nearly as fast as the E36 M3, and handles just as well (if not better) with potential to handle MUCH better. The power delivery, IMHO, is just as nice too. I love how smooth the rotary feels.
And, FWIW, my RX-8 will fly down the front straight at Pueblo Motorsports Park 10mph faster than my modified E36 m3. Exit speeds are higher, and cornering grip on crappy RE040s is noticeably better too.
Either I'm an exception to the rule, or I'm crazy. Speed does not matter in the type of driving that I do. There's so much to be said about a car like the RX-8, that emphasizes how much of a driver's car it is.
Try and find a car, other than an EVO IX or Mini Cooper S, that has better steering feel. Now try and find a car that forces YOU to drive it; none of this computer mumbo jumbo or awd to keep you safe. And if this car is as balanced and fun to drive as the RX-8, and utilitarian, for less than the price of an RX-8 let us know. I'm always ready to jump ship for a better, more fun, and more utilitarian car.

Everyone is wrong. The GTI traps 95ish mph and the best mag times are mid 14's with more than a few owners attaining those times. In a straight line they're about as close as two cars can get.

GTI'S ARE NOT FASTER THAT RX8S!!!!! Ive driven both and even solid number wise an MT Rx8 beats the GTI, as if it matters anyways, look at the two! I mean the GTI is the type of vehicle thats cool for the first hour u own it then itd get old

GTis have an AWESOME autostick, I will definately give that to them. And I love theyre torque. But that doesnt make them faster. The 8 isnt much faster, but is faster. Dammit at least let me say my 8 will beat a GTi, dont take that away from me!!! haha
#47
the gti is easier to drive to its potential.....the 8 is not....so in most cases the 8 will lose
#48
Exactly. now keep that mentality in your head, take the 8 to your local autocross track, and you will no longer care about the cars that can beat you in a straight line
#49
either that or just rev your engines next to honda civics at a stop light and youll feel like a badass when u smoke that thing to the next light That keeps my ego going! haha
