I have a 2005 GT 6M with 85K on it and I think at the new engine prices, better to just cut my losses and run.
Is $3,3XX still the Mazda list price of the engine and then add in labor, etc?
So a $5K job to get it all done?

If you do it at a dealer, $5k is the minimum you will be quoted, but usually they will quote you $6-$7k all-in. For around $5k you can get a quality engine from most of the rebuilders. Mazmart's engine price is $3,800ish, which is a mildly improved Mazda reman.
If your engine just has simple lack of compression, your cheapest option might be contacting rotary resurrection and shipping your engine to him for a rebuild. If it has a coolant seal failure, catastrophic seal failure, etc... then rebuilding is rarely going to be worth it.

yep. dealership charges about 12 hours to remove and replace it. you should factor in another $1000 for a clutch, which is zero labor when the engine is out. there might be some coolant hoses, engine mounts, and other stuff it needs when its apart too.
