RX8 engine vs indy car engine
Hey guys, i was just watching tv and the rx8 commercial came on, and was talking about how the engine in the rx8 is the same engine as the one in the indy car. the only big diffrence is the exhaust? So is it possible to make our rx8's that fast?

The engine in the RX-8 is the same as the engine in the formula mazda cars, they are not Indy cars. Indy cars run off a V8 using a much more powerful fuel etc and make about 3 times the HP of the formula mazdas. The formula mazdas are so fast because they are about 1600lbs lighter than an 8.

That's a good question, I was wondering the same. I'm surprised to hear the engine is exactly the same. No cooling modifications or anything? That's pretty impressive. Although I'm sure they tear down the engines after each race.

No they dont tear down the engines after each race, they engines are supposed to last at least the whole season and more towards lasting 3 whole seasons. Speedsource has found that even after several races with their RX-8s they are pretty close to brand new tolerances.

The motor block, intake, and attached accessories might all be the same. Everything else is performance-oriented, such as full standalone (Motec) engine management, sequential no-lift-shift transmission, etc.etc.etc.

Were talking about a light, carbon constructed single seater track car.
You could loose a few llb from the RX8 - but at the expence of its daily driver road car appeal.
If you want a fast light track car go get one, theres plenty about (in the UK anyhow).
How bout:

All make lightweight track orientated high power/weigth cars. Absolutly nothing you've been in will preper you for a Caterham r500 lol. (500 for 500bhp/ton, and it weighs 900llb), or the radical SR3.
