Yeah, I know how I should be paying for my car etc... But times have changed, and now Mommy and Daddy are expected to buy my car for me. I got a pretty good deal with them though; I have to pay for 3/4's of it, get straight A's and I can get it. They will also give my a credit card for gas only, which is pretty sweet.

Make sure mommy and daddy top off your oil for you while they're at it.

It's a great first car, haters are gonna hate. Ignore em, be responsible, take it out to a track, and have fun.

first car, and you already sound line you're gonna do a bit of showing off. get it if you are willing to be safe, and practice in a controlled environment. or get it if you drive like a wimp (ultimate defensive driving)

otherwise don't get it. you sound like a 325i type of guy anyways

i think ppl will agree with me on the second part atleast.

more or less heh, 8's are only for the ones that really care about them and love them, sounds gay but its the truth. Id prefer this car over any piston engine anyday (within reason, id totally take a Nissan GT-R) but you get the point...

Dude...

I'm sorry but it just blows my mind that some parents are dumb enough to buy their kid who has never driven alone before a RWD Sports car!!!

The RX8 is not a good first car not because of the upkeep but because its RWD! A RWD car with sporty inclinations is not by any means a good car for a new driver.

Get something FWD or AWD to learn. First time your rear tires break loose you are gonna have no idea what to do. You're either gonna bite the curb and roll or over correct and head into oncoming traffic.

I think the first car I drove was a 67 Buick with a 410 ci engine and that was rwd. I wouldn't have known it at the time, but it handled like a pig and stopped like a freight train. The only thing it had going for it was it was an automatic and that took one thing out of the equation that you didn't have to learn, a manual transmission. If you can keep your head out of the red mist, a sporty car should be a better car to learn in.

You're absolutely right..... and it's this mentality that has put our economy in the shape that it's in.

Be sure to post pictures when you wrap it around that tree.

Oh and then post pictures of your new 02' Accord.

Some of these posts are so stupid. It's not YOUR money, if they can afford to buy their kid an rx8, let em. Who are you to judge?

Ill agree with what Whitey said half but Imput has a point as well, why turn down a 8 when you could get it for free? Would yall take a brand new 09' R3 for free??? i mean i dont think hes getting the R3 but still why hate and try to turn him against the car we love? granted if your trying to protect him thats ok but stop bashing him, the 8 was/is my first car and im doing fine.

Guess who gave it to me... (Mommie) and you know what? i take way more care than that car then she ever did, if anything i did that car a favor heh she was a bad driver and always left it dirty. Now its clean and has a appropriate driver (yes, im a better driver than my mother). at anyrate back to the subject, the 8 is a amazing car, get it if you really like it but take car of it (her) and learn how to drive a RWD car by practicing in a empty parking lot when its rainy if you want to preserve your tires.

Im not trying to be rude to anyone by posting this im just stating how i feel and i appologize if i offended anyone.

I can't blame him a bit for accepting the car......my post was in response to his spoiled/cocky attitude. If his parents want to buy him this car then that's fine....but they shouldn't be "expected" to do anything. It just goes to show that he's ungrateful from the start. Personally I would buy my kid a used Civic because statistics show that most all teens will wreck their first car in some way or another.

i agree i agree, to be honest to the 16 year old that wants this car, read about this car for 3-4 months before you get it, and if your mind doesnt waver then get it. The usual "this car is slow" will come to mind alot but that doesnt matter, this car is all about that sound you get when you get to the 7.5k or 9k redline and the glove like handling this car gives... make your decision wisely or wait, maybe mommie will just trade it in for another car... good luck

still trying to decide? If they are buying u might as well get a lexus or lambo, or a prosche whatever its ur parents and if they are buying u a car it untimately is up to them on what they buy! At least that's how it would b if i had kids but then again i would not be buying a car for them make them learn the value of a dollar and what owrk is and they can buy what they want with their own money when they are 16 just as i did!
