RX8 Greetings on the road
#26
Back in the old days when I had my 1st gen 7 I would flip the lights up and down at other 7s. On my 2nd gen 7 I would blink the lights (the lower lens would flash w/out the main head lights coming up). In the 8 about all I've managed is a thumbs up at other 8s (and at 7s). If the conditions are right (time & light - visibility issues) I usually get an acknowledgement back. Most 8s around here are pretty friendly. I haven't started waving at Miatas (yet) lol.

I wave at the 8's, 7's and Miatas I see. On occassion someone will wave back. Not too many 8's though.
What is surprising is that I have gotten more thumbs -up signs from some of the other imports that cruise the streets around here; Bimmers, Stangs, Vettes, TSXes, and Subawoos just to name a few.

In my 3rd gen RX7, the pop-up headlights have an auxiliary switch that can be used to raise the headlights without turning them on. If you hit the switch just right, the headlights will pop up and immediately drop back down. Sorta like the car itself is waving. That's the acknowledgment I've always used with other FD owners, and it's surprising here in SoCal how many others respond in the same way.

But I got rid of her (after 350,000km and still ran good) for the "8" so it's not all bad!
I haven't had the "8" out yet as I just brought her home to store it until summer, but I'll be doing the wave/lights thing for sure.

I do the one finger lift. You know the one, where you lift the index finger off the steering wheel, just slightly. That is about all your going to get around here. It is a pretty friendly place, but to grin and wave and flash your lights would be dorky.

Just grab the top of the steering wheel with your left hand and make a "peace" sign. Then place the index finger of your right hand and "cap" off the peace sign. Now you've got the official international rotar sign of greeting!

Peakster - So far I have seen 1 winning blue and 2 titanium silver 8s on the road. Each of the silver ones honked and waved the winning blue is not so friendly. I always honk/wave/flash back (it's the friendly thing to do). Also have gotten waves from 1 FC and 1 FD.

I've waved (sunlight silver waved back) at one and flashed lights at the others with no response (though, on Highway 71, they may have thought I was warning of cops ahead).
I'll keep smiling and waving and blipping.

I almost got a wave in. I was heading down I-15 late one evening doing about 85 in the fast lane when this car passed me doing what had to of been 110 +. It was only when it passed me that I realized it was another 8. I'll get the next one.
