RX8 hit or miss

RX8 hit or miss
Hey guys I'm new to this forum. I just want to let you all know that I do not own an RX8 currently as you can tell from the title of this thread. I just wanted to ask everyone here what are some of the other highs and lows of this car. How bad of gas mileage do these cars get on the highway? I have a pretty short drice to work and 90% of that is highway miles so I'm wondering how good the gas mileage is and how many miles do you guys average to tank? Isnt a huge deal cause now I'm gettin around 10-12 in the city and 19-20 highway at best. Also beside needing to warm up and burning oil what are some other up keep issues with the RX8? I have heard if you take care of your renesis it can last a very long time. Also is Insurance any better because its a 4 door car or about the same as most sports cars. If you guys to give me a little info I would really appreciate it I am seriously looking at getting one of these cars which is a big jump for me because I have diven V8 sports cars my whole life so I just want to make sure before I look at buying. Thanks a lot everyone!

2) You must put in a quart of your blood and a gallon of your semen a week to keep the car happy.
3) You must put 3 coats of wax a week, any less and you'll have nightmares.

I used to have a 300ZX TT and my insurance is about the same but I have full coverage now and had only liability coverage for the Nissan.

*Most on this forum may flame you for asking these questions without "Searching" via the SEARCH BUTTON. I'm fairly new too, so I want to help you out. Next time though, research your questions by searching past posts because there's a ton of good stuff in the archives of this site. The specific questions you ask are the ONLY questionable aspects to the car and have been beaten to death and explained. Go read them. Afterwards try to justify the purchase to YOURSELF. As for me, I have come to terms with the cars nature and have justified my purchase and would do it again. But your questions come off as if you want US to justify our purchases to YOU, feel me? Most of us aren't Mazda salespersons and could care less if you bought one or not, feel me? So, yeah. Study the car and join us or go another way.
My advice is to test drive the car back to back with what you are driving now. It's a different "breed" of car and takes a particular sort of enthusiast to appreciate and love the car. Not EVERY car "guy" will oogle over this car, just a select few. Get to know some people on here and you'll see what I mean.
Good luck with your shopping and don't jump into anything unless you love the car for the ups and downs (as all cars have).
2 cents.

That can be challenging to administer if you are out of town.
Helps keep the exhaust tips clean.

Just thought I would ask no need for dick comments. Screw what the dealer sticker says because its a load of s@#t my car was supposed to get 25 highway havent seen that yet and screw reading reviews thought I would get right to the point and ask people who own these cars, Its seems some people on here get 13cty others get 16cty my ques is what is the best someone has gotten highway? If not can you all please point me to the link that can help me. I also wanted to know how good these cars reliability is every car has problems some worse than others I just wanted to know will these things run more than 200, 300, 400 thousand miles or what. Sure the insurance ques was kind of dumb but I ask because I am not some 15 yr old kid tugging my moms tit trying to get this for my 16th b-day I ask because I have to pay for it. There just simple ques guys if you don't want to answer them then don't, I can ask people who own these cars or go to a dealer and let them try to blow smoke up my *** about how great and reliable and bla bla bla about the damn car.

And on here, you will have to learn how to have a thick skin. They will flame on anyone at any given chance. They are like pitbulls. You never know when they will turn. You just know eventualy they will. It is usualy in fun though.

Thanks I have read the performance reviews and i know they aren't the easiest thing in the world to modify or the most reliable when modified. And the handling and fun to drive factor is the main thing I am looking at. I want a car I can drive back and forth to work everday that will be reliable and fun to drive and not front wheel drive. As far as giving me a hard time screw'em if hinding behind your keyboard and talking crap to someone who just had a question makes you feel good then thats your there prob not mine.

I think the 8 fits your bill then. I am a car salesman and have driven a lot of cars. I have never found one that I would want to trade my 8 for. No matter the price. Welcome to the site. There are a lot of good people on here with a lot of knowledge. As I said, you just have to pick through it.

I know this sounds kind of stupid, but it's honestly the best advice I can give you:
Go test drive a few.
A few days later, go test drive other cars in the same price range that fit your performance needs, like the S2k. (Don't exclude cars because of non-performance reasons IE: I need a car with backseats)
Go test drive the SAME RX-8s a few days later.
You will find that most cars in the same price range will faster (350Z > RX-8), more reliable (Honda > Mazda), and be 'easier' to drive (AWD STI > RWD RX-8). You will also notice that out of all of the other cars you drive, the RX-8 will have a very VERY different feel to it. Ask yourself "Does the feel of the RX-8 call out to me, or does it just feel kinda awkward?"
Something about the way *all* RX's are build just makes them feel like they have their own unique personality. If you find an RX-8 that 'likes' you, buy it; you won't be disappointed. Even if the mpg & reliability fall shy of your standards, you'll have no regrets if you buy an 8 with a compatable personality.
However, if you don't 'hear' the car talking to you, don't buy it.
It's really that simple.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, welcome and all that. Before you continue, allow me to reiterate in a plainer way some of what has already been said:
- You will be flamed for any mechanical/technical question you ask. Some of the long-time members here don't realize the futility of the "search" function on these forums. This is a forum for a vehicle with very peculiar specifications & quirks. Searching for keywords like "reliability", "fuel economy", and "maintenance" brings up several hundred threads that go something like this:
A - Hi I'm new! How reliable is the RX-8?
B - OMG NEWB WATCH THIS FLASH
C - USe Da SeaRCh~!!!! lololol
D - ZoMG buy a civic you ricer! They're reliable!
E - repost x1098327498715. I hate Newbs
F - Why didn't you read the sticky FAQs???
A - OK, fine - **** you guys.
C - Good RIddENSSSS NOOOOOOObbbeeee
D - Srsly by a civic bicth
E - Stupid Newbs
Reading 3 or 4 threads of nothing but flames doesn't get you any closer to the answer you were looking for.
- In my mock-thread above, person 'F' actually makes a decent point. You most definately should read the sticky threads. I know, I know - there are a crapload of them and they're really really really REALLY long and most likely still don't give the straight-forward answer you're looking for, but it will help you to phrase your questions in a manner that will filter out replies like B thru F's.
- 90% of the people on these boards automatically assume that anyone who says the phrase "I'm thinking about getting and RX-8" is only doing so because they think it'll make them look cool (I admit that I am part of that 90%; I apologize if I'm wrong.) If you're buying an RX-8 for any reasons other than looks, take the time to explain - everyone here is eager to get other gearheads & enthusiasts addicted to the rotary experience, but even more eager to scare off dipshits who just want to get looks from other drivers... make sure you don't get improperly labeled.
