RX8 - Long term car?

I want to hold on to my RX8 long after she's paid off. I intend to hold on to her for the next 7-8 years...put about a 100K to 150K on her. What do you guys think about that?

The thing that scares me is it might cost more to have her repaired (if she needs it) as I have to go to a Mazda technician only.

I'm at 44K now on my '04 ... that's about all I ever put on my 1980 RX-7. The rotary is strong - I still see quite a few 1978-83's on the road. With the exception of the engine - maintenence items are fairly ordinary for an RX-8 plus the renesis in the 8 has been tested to be the most durable of any rotary.

i think you should trade when you hit 9.999K miles. Once you get higher than that, you risk blowing the engine.

rx7 has love from alot of enthusiasts because of its tuner ability. also being featured in the fast and the furious 1 and 3 helps appeal to younger crowd.

meanwhile they give our car to a chick and call it a toy.

I think he means that in the new Fast and Furious movie our beloved Rx-8 is only seen doing a nice moon lit drift session and driven by the love interest. Hence its only toyed with and not beaten up if you will like the Rx-7, Silva and 350Z.

I to plan to keep my Rx-8 for awhile to come unless a better car comes my way which I doubt. I dunno I like my baby so unless she stays out past her cerfew I wont need to kick her out haha...!

Wasn't the RX8 in Xmen 2, driven by Wolverine?

I met someone last weekend with an 87 RX7 with 240,000 miles on the engine - and still running stong. The transmission has been rebuilt a couple times (he has it done with a clutch about every 70,000 miles). He's getting ready to buy an RX8. Ate a differential at about 180,000 miles and a handful of CV joints. Climate control was converted to a switch & lever system for heat after a few modules were replaced. Interior was reconditioned a few times and it's been painted twice. Still looks very nice and he was in the Dallas area when I saw the car but he's from New Mexico. Obviously not afraid of driving it 600 miles from home.

I think the RX8 will hold on for a very long time as long as it's serviced correctly.

yes but it also took years of it not being released in the US anymore before it got really recognized and in due time someone will figure out the ecu in the 8 and they will be tuner friendly. i really wish that axial SC or whatever it was was ready and available it sounded like the ideal SC and would have loved to have been a test car >< lol

I plan on keeping my 8 until reparing it costs more than the value.

Hopefully that will be never! I dunno if I could get rid of it down the road. It's my first car I can call my own, and I'll probably see it as too important to let go

I'm never going to sell my 8. I've heard too many stories told by guys like my father about the car they wished they had held on to. I love the 8 and I'm going to avoid the regret of selling it by keeping it.

There is an RX-7 in the Tokyo drift too, although it's barely recognizable with a wide body kit.
