Talking

Amen to the nav system. I was talking to a salesman at my 'local' Mazda dealer and he told me that the twin turbo was going to be an installed option so that the insurance people wouldn't be able to hammer you, no reference in the vin to it. True or not, I don't know. He said $6000 would be the price tag.

All i can say is...Ouch! I thought the stereo on my 84' Rx-7 was impossible

here take a look http://images.rotarynews.com/images/...o/24rx8-cc.jpg
Ok I looked real hard at this and I see something... Hopeful!!! There is a button for MD/Tape... Maybe that means Mazda was thinking. I don't think that is common on "stock" head units.

Am I missing something? At the very least you might be able to use it as a second input from another head unit?

Just my two bits... And I admit freely... Car stereo is not my thing I let someone else install the stuff... I just listen.

I find it interesting that more choose the automatic than navigation.

I would love it if the RX-8 were available with an honest clutchless manual (no, not one of the marketing bastardizations like "tiptronic"), similar to what has been installed in the new BMWs. I'm sure that such a tranny will be available in something like the RX8 in the near future, but the question is when.

optional LSD? NO WAY. They shouldn't let a single rx-8 off the line without one. That's crazy talk.

Well, on the 350Z (oh no, I said a bad word!) LSD is not available on the base model, but is standard on the others.

Not saying that's the way it should be, but stating that it could be that way as Nissan is doing it that way with the car they are counting on to rejuvenate their image... much the way Mazda is counting on this car to do.

BTW, VELOCERACING , I don't know if you saw my message the first time, but I still think that you need to redo your graph formulas there. The percentages presented should be percentages of the total as in (number of votes for the item)/(number of people who voted) x 100%... NOT like it is right now where you have (number of votes for an item)/(total number of votes for each item) x 100%.

For my two cents worth, I hope that things like Limited Slip and Cruise Control will be standard.

Power seat motors. A six-way power seat will have three motors, with accompanying wiring, gears, etc. Then multiply that by two seats, and you get in the neighborhood of 50 lbs., give or take.

Poll (Telescoping-Tilt Wheel)

I voted for the telescoping wheel, this was th eoption that was most important because it is important for driving comfort. All the other stuff like stereo is not as important and stuff like stereo and speakers can be added.
Bought my wife a Cabrio and it doesn't have a telescoping tilting steering wheen and it is almost impossible to get comfortable in that car....
Just one opinion

Wow, I'm surprised at how many people want traction control. The only trac control I need is my right foot.

I'm basically saying that the package comes out to approx. 25 per seat, 50 overall. Of course, that depends on a bunch of things, but that's the "ballpark", anyway.

Seat heaters should only add some 5 pounds at the most to the car, total. I put an aftermarket set in my Miata, and the darn relay box is as heavy as the heating elements. I didn't think they'd be worth all that much until another car of mine just happened to come with them. But after living with them in two cars, they are worth it for me.

I want a moonroof/sunroof. Every vehicle I've ever owned has had one....I'm spoiled! I expect cruise control in a modern car, especially one with an MSRP of $25K+. I love leather....I know some people don't. I'd pay extra for it, but I also think that a nice cloth/fabric seat option is a must. No A/T, please! I can live without the navigation system....I'll buy a map instead! And traction control.....well, I don't plan on driving my 8 in the snow/ice/whatever, so I'd rather not have it.

Anyone else interested in a no-ABS option? Mazda currently offers ASB as an option--not standard--on most, if not all, of their vehicles.

...in my humble opinion I think we should expect cruise, tilt/tele, limited slip diff, and traction control in a 21st century sports car costing nearly $30K.

The other stuff is more about personal preference. It should all be optional.

I hope I have as much fun in my RX-8 as I have in my '96 Miata!

Why all the argueing about the automatic transmission???
Just put in a 6-speed short shift gearbox standard and make an option for an SMG-like gearbox (you can switch it to fully automatic if you want) and everybody is happy :D

Keep the auto transmission for the Mazda6. It has no place on a high performance sports sedan.

6sp should be standard. I do remember watching a video at SS5 that showed the driver shifting what looked like paddles behind the steering wheel!
