Rx8 Overheating,and check ligth

Hi, I have a problem with my mazda rx8 typeS ,I hope you can help me well when I drive a normal distance the temp gauge seems to be normal ,almost in the middle but when I stop the car and touch the hood and open it the engine is very hot and some times the check ligth goes on, then I put the key on the ON position and the check ligth flashes 7 times quick and inmediately 1 more slow flash
the hood and fenders are normal to be so hot ?when the engine its cold the gauge is down and as soon as I drive goes almost to the middle ,works fine,
please help me
note: I live in a hot city

Faulty thermostat perhaps? And have you checked your coolant and oil levels

of course engine will be hot if you touch it using your hand, working temperature for an engine is around 180-200F fully warmed up
for check light, go to autozone and pull the codes and report back

Ive seen my oil coolers smoking steam on rainny days, pretty cool. very simular to riding my bike on a rainny day.

Is it the Check Engine Light or the Low Coolant Light? If it is the coolant light check the coolent level in the morning and it should be at the Full line. If not add more. If there is enough coolant then your low coolant level sensor is bad and will need a new overflow coolant tank or live with the light.

Run on sentences for the win! BTW, where did you get this "typeS" rx8 that you speak of?lol

Anywayz, do what everyone else said. Check the coolant level and go to autozone and pull the codes. That will most def tell you what is wrong.

give the guy a break...he most likely is not from this country since he owns a type S

the type S is the JDM version of the "high power" version in the states

I stand corrected.

And i also apologize to benjo for being an ***. It's a problem i have from spending too much time on many different forums. You see so many lazy people typing without regards to punctuation.

Like i said benjo, check coolant, pull codes.

rX8 TYPE S is the same as the HIGH POWER ok no problemn...
My oil level and coolant level are fine, also the fans work fine too but the check ligth goes on sometimes when the engine is hot and I driving very very slow actually I reset the ecu and erase the chech ligth but it will goes again a soon as I drive long distance slow and hot.
sometimes my friends are standing next to my car and touch the hood or fender and tell me that the car is overheating but my temp gauge is ok ,less than the middle.
It is normal to feel the hood and fenders to hot from outside?

Do u still have the padding inside the engine bay? I know that prevents the hood and fenders from feeling too hot. It could be a bad sensor too... not sure, sounds weird. Go someplace and have them pull the codes to see what that light means. It will no doubt tell you what problem you are having so you can fix it.

If your car is overheating here is what will happen.

1. The coolant will boil and spill
2. There will be that typical coolant smell and smoke
3. The temp gauge will go beyond middle
(All three happened to me, broken fan two years ago)
Lastly, repeated checking of whether it is overheating or not will result in your car getting screwed up. Since you have been resetting it and driving it and it is still working, then it is not overheating. remember that the RX8 has a skew heat distribution so when the cooling system fails, one side of the engine gets hotter than the other pretty fast and your engine become history in no time.

My advice is check the light, it could be pointing to an impending problem.

I have a smiliar problem, no matter how much I press it, or if I drive normal, the red light will start, for couple of minutes, sometimes seconds and then disappear, some times dissapears when I press the clutch or when I break little. It's quite annoying, because for normal driving it should not overheat, not after my mentality. I have a 2003 rx8 manual, 6 gear. I recently changed the clutch, so many times when I put it in gear it gets hot, i'm thinking it might be due to the clutch ? as some times it goes dificult in gear ; speacially in 1st . I do not have too many knowledges in cars, nor English is my mother languange. So please don't make fun of me or anything, help me only :-)

1st gear is a bit tricky on rx-8's I could only get in 1st when under 5 mph.
I think you either have a bad sensor or the radiator fan is not working.
check your radiator fan see if they work properly.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the car, you was right, it was a bad sensor. But about the gears. When it doesnt go in 1st gear, it doesn't go any of the other gears. My mechanic said that because the clutch is new, it doesn't make the clutch long enough, so I can adjust this, but he said if i do this, once it gets used, I will lose grip, and my revs will go up but my speed not . Should I do it ? This car is giving me a headake

I think the clutch on the rx-8 is self adjusted
but I know what you talking about. I sometimes found its hard to get into any gear when the transmission is not spining but the car is moving

overheating dash light on

I own a 2009 RX8 and it has low miles since I do not use it much. I just approached 50K miles and lately when I drive even for short distances the overheating dash light comes on. I have checked the coolant level both when the car was cool and shortly after driving. Coolant level is good. I would like to know if this has happened to anyone and what are your recommendations for repair before I spend alot of money just to find out what is causing it. Thanks...

If the dash light you are referring to is the low coolant light (looks like a house look it up) there is a know issue.

This is a critical issue, IMO.

Like the Cadillac Northstar 4.6, overheating conditions are a kiss of death for the Renesis, IMO.

Overheating conditions are bad for any engine, but have the potential to do more serious damage to motors containing higher percentages of aluminum.

I have often theorized that since many of the catastrophic engine failures in the Renesis seemed to happen in disproportionately greater numbers in very hot parts of the country such as Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and so forth (even more true of automatic 4 port motors with their one oil cooler), overheating condition is a very big contributing factor (as in correlation may relate to causation) to catastrophic failure to a much larger extent than Mazda has officially acknowledged.

This is why I do flush and fills of my radiator at shorter intervals than with other cars I've owned, test the coolant and radiator fan regularly, and watch my coolant level like a hawk.

I think many people underestimate the time it takes for an overheating condition to do serious and irreversible damage to particular motors.
