rx8 popularity????
Youd don't think the 8 will end up too popular do u? I like it the way it is now. Where thee aren't that many of them.
I hope you it don't end up like the eclipse or mustang. You don't think it will do you?
I like my car because it's unique. I am glad to be one of few who have the opporutinity to own one. I love the rx-7 and 8 because they are they best of rotary powered cars. Mazda, although not an exotic company makes a car that no other company makes.
It wouldn't be as cool if everyone had one!
soooo....What ya think?

Yep, forget it. The "early adopter" period is over. Here come the masses. I hope you enjoyed it while you lasted unless you live in a rural environment... you have about 6 months left. The only good part about this is the aftermarket support and the 8 is mazda's rotary "phoenix".

The 8 is not exactly common. I was driving through Atlanta on I85 yesterday (not rush hour) and I could see 4 x G35s within 100 yards in front and behind me.
In Orlando the rental car fleets are already fully stocked with Mustangs. I spot at least one every couple of minutes.
I have never seen more than two 8's on the road at one time. Mine and the other one that I spotted.

I'm with beachdog. I maybe see two or three here in the Orlando area in a week. I'm sure it's like anything else though, there may be areas where it's more popular than others. It would be interesting to see the sales breakdown by region?

I see maybe 3 a week where I live near College Park, Maryland. Which I consider to be very busy since I'm near Rt1 and I95. Our cars have been out for a while now and I see 3x's the amount of new mustangs than I see of our cars! I guess it depends on the area. But even after all this time, I still see everyone look at my car with bulged eyes! LOL

I hope the streets get flooded with them so that the people that bought one because they thought they would be unique and have an uncommon car feel stupid. It's a mass produced car and Mazda will sell as many as they possibly can. I always find it hilarious when people talk about how they wanted something unique that you don't see all the time like STis, Evos, S2Ks, and Zs when 3 of those cars combined production don't add up to what Mazda wants to sell of the RX-8 per year and they'd love to sell as many RX-8s as Nissan does Zs.

well, you DO live in New Hope- last time I was up there most everyone was driving the expensive stuff. But head down to Philly and you'll see a ton- I was up there a few months ago and again saw a ton of them. I think you just have to be a more populated area.

Shouldn't this thread (and the others just like it) be merged with the various threads worrying over whether the RX-8 will be discontinued because it isn't selling?
Obviously, the only satisfactory policy is for Mazda to sell RX-8's only to "cool people" (like us) rather than allowing the "masses" to purchase the car.
I'd love to see the pre-purchase questionnaire.
"List your favorite musical artists."
"Do you have cable? If so, please list your favorite basic and premium cable channels."
"Would you wear a brown belt with black shoes?"
"Were you in the 'audio-visual club' in high school?"
"Is Britney Spears passe?"
"Do you feel 'South Park' is appropriate entertainment for children?"
"Do you follow the news via (a) newspapers, (b) network news, (c) 'The Daily Show' (d) 'E!'"
"I'm sorry Mr. Smith, your cool score is below our cutoff. We'll be happy to sell you an MPV, but the RX-8 is not available to you. Have you considered a Buick?"

This is a mass production car and Mazda didn't stop producing 8's after you bought yours :D Heck I already see more of the new retro Mustangs on the road than I do 8's. If you're tired of seeing too many of us other 8 owners on the road in the next couple years, just sell yours and get the next thing out there.

Well if your worried about the 8 being everywhere on the road...I don't know what to say...other than look in your parking lot and see how many of the "other" cars there are.
In the area's that I drive. I usually see about 3 of every car that I would consider buying befor I see one 8.
But like IkeWRX says: "It's a mass produced car and Mazda will sell as many as they possibly can."

And a limited run is a two edged sword. I bet the delorean early adopters were a little bummed a year or two later.
