Are rx8 really that slow?

Well looking at "the Stigs" lap times on the BBC's Top Gear, the RX-8 is in the following company for the same lap time of 1min31.8 seconds.
Nissan 350Z
BMW 535d
BMW M3
And in fact faster than many so called high performance V6 and V8's
