If I remember correctly.....we reckon it is nothing, or simply it knew the battery was bad. We shall see. If/when Ryan gets a battery, let us know and one of us can be there just to read the code if there is one and see how it starts and runs.

We(I) only got pissed at her because she made some stupid @*** comment without bothering to read what all was being done and or said.
I could've been a whole lot worse....trust me! I went very, very easy on her realizing she might just not know how to properly move about the forum yet.

I'll speak for both of us......thanks!

IMO..............can't be sure it 100% solved and ready to go, but I think it is.

She goes to school in Orlando and the car will eventually be housed over there...........then you guys can take over if need be!

I'll link this thread to our local forum and see if she wants to join us, that way we can provide some assistance if something else comes up in the future.

Very good job, guys. Need more people like you out and about. Might help stop the misconceptions of our engines exploding all the time when it's just something else.

Hoping that they get a battery this weekend and maybe give us a call for one more going over, but it's up to Rachael and the families schedule. I'm sure Bastage will want to go as well.............we kinda adopted that car for a short time!

Yeah......I can't help but wonder how many engines have been replaced that really didn't need to be? That's a hard number to figure out amongst all the BS.
Anyway........we aren't pros by any means, but I'd like to think we saved the car and her a lot of money. Only time will really tell, it does have almost 150k on it.

Hey, no reason to be sorry. Some of us have just been curious. I'll be around this weekend if ya need any help. I would like to see if how the car is behaving once the new battery goes in. Don't know what Bastage is up to, but I'd kinda like to be there when it's started up.

Just read the thread from start to finish. Kudos to the Mazurfer and Bastage for all the good work and everyone else who helped diagnose the problem. An awesome show of support for an 8 in need.

Rachael, I'm not working today(Monday) so I can swing by. I lost your mom's number, so hopefully she still has my cell. Give me a call or reply to this and I can run by for a looksee.

Now.........give me a hint.............you didn't possibly hook it up backwards at first did you?
It sounds like some fuses popped, but won't know till I get there.

Dave

Stupid question here.......

Battery on backwards? Tested the battery to make sure it's A-OK.

That's all I can help with from here...GL.

I'm wondering that myself.............I'm seeing if I can find her number. If not, I might just drive over there.

Read my edited post above!

I was just reading a thread about how someone tried to jump their 8 with the cables on backwards... these sound like the same problems... it was the main fuse that blew and knocked out most of the systems... so if you read this, that is where I would start.

I'm back..........all is fine. We all had it pretty much pegged.

If you've been reading through this thread then we all know she needed a new battery, well...............before she got the new battery, her ********(she approved that use!) ex-boyfriend(or something likr that) hooked up the battery charger to the old battery backwards while it was in the car and proceeded to melt the battery post right into the battery.

So anyway, when she installed the new one.............well, you all read it. It wouldn't start as stated. Some lights were on and some were not.

So..............after getting this info when I got there, and also having read that thread, I unhooked the new battery and immediately went to the 120A main fuse. Measured across those two terminals up in the fuse compartment and no continuity. Unhooked those two wires(terminals) and then lifted out the back portion of the fuse box and turned it, then I unbolted the 120A mainfuse. Checked again once it was out and still no continuity.

She jumped on the phone with Mazda to order one because we knew they wouldn't have any in stock. Meantime I made a sizeable jumper out of two pieces of 16awg wire, and wired that in where the fuse would normally go. Put the whole fuse box back in, reconnected the two wires to the terminals, and rehooked up the battery.

She jumped in and it started right away.

It also took out the audio fuse in the cabin, but we got that squared away as well......since there is a spare.

Reset the DCS because the battery was taken off.

Hooked up the Scangauge because I knew if I didn't that Bastage would ask.......and I wanted to know as well.
No codes......no CEL. Left the Scangauge hooked up and she then drove up to get some gas in the car. Returned about 10-15 minutes later and while still running, I again checked the scangauge........all clean. Bastage........I also saw the water temp at 202 degrees and this is about 20 minutes after the car was started.

I also verified the alternator wasn't doing anything weird due to having seen reverse ploarity. I wanted to be sure no diodes got cooked.

So............I then explained that some of the protection(the fuse) has been overridden at the moment and don't let anyone near the battery, until either you or I come over and put that fuse back in once it arrives.

Rachael............I know you will read this! We didn't check all the operations of the car, so you could still have other blown fuses just like the radio was. Next time you start the car, please have someone go around while you are in it and check your brake lights, turn signals, etc. I know you are driving it this afternoon, so I hope you see this before you take off.
