gives me a little more confidence in my 8, which i just bought recently with 90000kilometers. pretty much broke for the next month till i get it compression tested again and new seals if required.

Went over and popped in new 120A fuse, hooked up Scangauge. Reset DCS/TCS since I had the battery off. Car fired right up as expected. No codes, no CELs. Took it for a spirited little drive and no issues. Scangauge was clean when bringing it back.
Oh..............and see washed it! Good girl!

Rach,
Risky is probably right, since you got gas Saturday it might be it. This and the fact that when I was over the other day you said it came on with your mom, but when we put the fuse in, I had the battery disconnected.
We need to be a little cautious and find out what that CEL is right away, but I want you to go out and re-tighten your gas cap. Make sure it clicks about 6 times before you stop. Your CEL probably won't go away, so we need to get that code read ASAP. If you get a chance, pop by an AUTOZONE and see if they will read it for you, then let us know what it is.
If coming home any time soon, contact me and you can swing by and I'll read it for you.
I think the gas cap is a good bet and I think it's P0442 for the code, but we need to make sure that is what it is. Don't disconnect the battery as I don't want that code cleared until it's read.
Argh! I was going to leave her my scangauge for awhile......I wish I would've done so.

It may not clear on it's own though.
It's possible that if it is the gas cap that it will after a couple of drive cycles(if it is loose)........but it would still be good to know what it is. There are quite a few 04's and others that have had to go get the "new" improved gas cap.....but...we don't know that this is what it is yet.

According to one of the local dealers the gas cap code does not clear on it's own and must be cleared manually. Then again it is the same guy that told me that all Mazda's take Synthetic Oil only.

Amazing thread.
As far as the gas cap is concerned, I filled up my car a couple of days ago and FORGOT to put the gas cap back on until I got home (when I saw it). I got a 'chck engine' light came on. I took the car to the dealer, they performed my 15,000 mi service and replaced the following: Gas Cap (that's what the light was for), they replaced the Coolant tank..apparently there was a TSB for that as well, the replaced something else that had a TSB and they reflashed my ECM. The engine light did not go off after driving for a couple of days...

Yeah, if it clears itself, it means it was a temporary 'bump' in the system that it recognized is no longer an issue. Due to the facts around it, it is likely that it was a gas cap issue and it cycled itself clean once it realized it isn't a permanent issue.
Looking good

Yep, I'd like to think that was it then. Time will tell. Make sure you tighten it when getting gas............about 6 clicks. Would still ike to have it read sometime when it's on though, but I hope it never comes back!
