RX8 VS 2001 Mustang GT

OK, so I debated whether or not to post this as I am sure it will bring out the Mudslingers, but I couldn't resist.

On the weekend, I did the couples dinner thing, and invited a client and his wife. He has always been a "car guy", but very much in love with the American V-8's.....he has a modded Vette (barely drives), and a 2001 Mustang GT.

Now after dinner, we got in our cars and drove to my my place a few glasses of wine. He followed behind me, and I knew he was just itching to have a little fun

we have a road leading into our downtown core that is about 300-400 meters long, and once we hit it he tried to pull into the next lane and fly by.....needless to say, aroung the corners, when we reached the bottom of the hill he was at least 7 car lenghts behind. At the light, he was behind me, and with the glare of the girlfriend beside me, I took off from the light on an open stretch of road....no hard launch. He noticed this and dropped the hammer, and tried to pass in the other lane....this was very brief as neither of us wanted to be stupid, but up till about 60-65mph, he couldn't pull on me......when we got to my place he was surprised, and even I was a little......the GT is rated at 260hp.

I know a lot of posters here bash the 8, and by now means do I think its fast, but it is quick....and I wonder if half the bashers have spent little or no time in the car, or watched some guy at a track run a mid 15 1/4 mile because he doesn't know how to drive......maybe there are a few 8's out there down on power, but I have always felt a good push in my car, and more so when I crossed 15,000km, I don't know if anyone else noticed that, but I could really feel the difference?

It seems to me many posters on here that comment on the 8's performance either don't own it, or have had very little "real world experience" in one.

Now once again before I get attacked for stating this, I have owned faster cars than the 8, so I am not saying it is the end all be all, but it holds it own very well.

I had a copy of the July 2005 R&T speed addition, and my client wanted to see what they had rated the 8 at.....they had all the recent 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for the cars they've tested....

0-60 6.1
1/4 14.6

This is actually close the the GT Mustang and he commented it was a 6sec 0-60 car.....now we didn't want to race, so please don't say this is a kill message, but for a brief stint, he did not pull on me at all??......

Just going from memory but the stang is a fair amount heavier. So the differenc ein rated HP is 22. In real life should be very close in speed.

How many times are the mods going to let Broker post his kill stories of various cars? As the world turns at RX-8 Club...

Well, I saw numbers from 5.8 to 6.8 for RX-8. As far as comparison goes, I drove a Mustang GT 2001 and it felt quicker than RX-8, I guess mostly from the huge torque difference.

Some numbers:
http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html
Mazda RX-8: 5.8 14.49
Ford Mustang GT: 5.5 14.1
(first number is 0-60, second is 1/4)

I was comparing the new Mustang GT to new RX-8 when I was considering buying a new car. In fact, I was going to buy a Mustang GT (I love the sound) but after test driving the 8, I no longer wanted the GT

But on the other hand for different years/models (I took 1999 in my previous post):

2004 Ford Mustang GT 6.3 14.8

which makes RX-8 look better

I have had a number of GT's try to toy with me...one time I was trying to merge onto a highway and this GT came over into the lane I was merging into, he didn't want to let me in so I simply dropped and took off, he did not like the fact that he got burned...all I was trying to do was merge! Some of the GT's just want to see what we've got and are curious I would assume...
