I don't like the headlights at all, but the spoiler makes up for it.

Personally I think it's ugly, the 8 looks MUCH better, and so does the 7. And it has the old Mazda badge, so it's got to be ancient this video, late-90s or something?

Really more the RX-7 that wasn't than the RX-8 that wasn't.

Actually the RX-01 (P797) and P007 were in development around the same time in the early 90's when it became clear that the FD (third gen RX-7) was such a flop and missed the market so baddly. The P797 was Hiroshima's version and the P007 was MNA's version.

If the sports car market had turned around, it was projected that they would have built both, with the RX-01 (P797) becoming the RX-7 and the P007 (which everyone here should already know) became the RX-Evolve, which became the RX-8.

The RX-01 was kinda intresting as it really was the first Mazda with the Multi side port reni styled engine. The engine was so far back that the spark plug access was actually inside the car, where there was an access panel on the side of the hump and it used a dry sump oiling system so that the pan could be virtually eliminated.
