Unhappy rx8 will not start

First time posting on the forum however I have read alot of the previous posts. Any way I have had my rx8 for 3 months exactly and got home from work today to take her out and she wouldn't start. Of course the service dept. is closed already so the salesman tells me nothing that I haven't already looked at. (I am an electrician not a mechanic, but do have some mechanical skills). Any way the engine wants to start it just doesn't get that last bit of fire to turn over. Any suggestions would be appreciated, otherwise I have to have it towed to the dealer for them to look at it. THANKS IN ADVANCE.. JASON BAKER

Well I think you've run into the infamous RX-8 flooding problem. I myself had the exact same thing happen to me. At first I didn't think it was flooded because I didn't think I did anything that would cause it to flood. I saw other posts about flooding but even if you figure out it's flooded, it's very hard to start, possibly impossible. I finally was able to start my RX-8 after ten minutes of following the owners manual procedure for flooding (10 sec crank with pedal floored, 10 sec crank with pedal released).

After getting my Rx-8 started, I drove around for awhile and eventually I got a misfire and my CEL is now on. I have an appointment with my dealer next week (oil light occasionally on, CEL on, slightly sub-par gas mileage, car flooded when temperature dropped).

Hope this helps. Good luck.

It may be flooded but, I tried your suggestion and that didn't work. I am going to call the dealer this morning and get them to pick it up and fix it. I don't mind changiing the oil myself or doing a brake job, but I don't think that I should have to work on the engine especially not after only 3 months of owning the car. And I am not bashing the car like alot of posts on the sites have done, but how much oil are your rx8's using. I have 3009 miles on the car and have gone through 2 quarts. Is this about standard with your cars. Again I appreciate any comments or advice about the situation. THANKS JASON BAKER

Yea, I think something is awry. When the weather changed, my car started but the engine shivered intensely and my CEL light came on. I have just came back from replacing some of the spark plugs, looks like I might have to go back because some more are foul. Mazda should really look into this because even though I follow all the correct procedures, I'm not flooding but fouling the spark plugs.

Jason, that oil consumption seems high. I added less than a quart at 3000 miles.

That oil consumption is very high...even for a rotary.

Dont let your dealer say its normal (they will try to), because it is definitely not.

good luck, I hate seeing all these people with problems...but on the first year of any car problems are inevidable.

Mazda got the car towed to the dealer but the service dept. isn't open on the weekend. Imagine that.. I don't know about you guys, but I am starting to think that there are some serious problems with the car, and it pains me to say that. I told everyone here that all the engine problems of the past were taken care of and that the car is totally redefined, and I am starting to look like an idiot.
I filled out the buy back deal on the advice of a buddy of mine. He told me to watch the price of the car go down. Here in Memphis TN the price has actually gone up about $1000, however with these new problems coming to light I am glad I still have an option.
Has anyone here already sold there car back or is waiting like I am to hear from mazda on the whole deal. I really didn't want to sell it back, I just wanted to see where the price of the car would settle after the news of the horsepower came and went. Now it is as if I really need to sell it back. I hope not I like the car and the horsepower is definitely not a problem for me, but this engine and oil and just the service after the sell has realy sucked.
Sorry don't mean to get anybody down on the car it has just been a pretty bad couple of days. THANKS AGAIN JASON BAKER

Well i called the service dept. this morning and they said that it was flooded and that causes the spark plugs to foul out. Also commented on the oil usage and the guy said that it should start using less oil now that the engine is broken in (3000 miles). I appreciate all the info. from you guys hope I don't have to ask for more info on problems, but will start posting on the forum what I have heard and learn over the life of my car.
