RX8 Wins the Rolex 24 (GT Class)
Mazda scorches the competition at the 2008 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
This year they took home the 2008 gold after 664 Laps, 2,363 miles, 17,928 shifts, and more than 10 million revolutions of its rotary engine. The Castrol Syntec Mazda RX-8, driven by Nick Ham, David Haskell, Raphael Matos and Sylvain tremblay won the GT Class at the Rolex 24 in Daytona, ahead of more than two dozen Porsches and Ferraris. While our drivers may be tired, their Mazda RX-8, with its legendary rotary engine reliability and pure sports car design, never did - bringing home Mazda's 22nd Daytona class win. Find out more at MazdaUSA.com
Not sure if this is old news or not, but its still pretty awesome. if someone could post some video links or anything like that, it'd be appreciated.

"legendary rotary engine reliability", funnnnnny
Sounds like this type of race is the rotary's forte with its fewer moving parts.
These type of endurance races don't say much about real day to day reliability.

But I do agree, these types of races seems to brush on the engine REALLY well. Good to see it getting some more good press.
*EDIT* that sounds like I'm coming off as a *****. Sorry, I meant no real anger/insult/anything in that post, just trying to say I don't think it's NOT reliable :P

Old news but can't hear it enough... Watched them finish on Speed Channel back in January.

repost but always fun reading that Mazda once again owned the competition.

Great achievement, alright. Even though the SpeedSource cars bear little resemblance to a stock RX-8, it was fantastic to see and HEAR them on the track. I was at the race and had a chance to talk with Sylvain Tremblay and David Haskell. Both very pleasant sorts and they seemed totally excited about their program.

Well, I didn't ask that question and they didn't volunteer an answer.
However, since those 3-rotor engines are no doubt rebuilt frequently, whether or not they use a synthetic or dino oil probably is not relevant information to apply to our street cars. My guess is that they use a synthetic, perhaps Castrol Syntec
, but it is only a guess. I'll ask them next year.

I think your right as it might be provided free but I guess they could get any kind of Castrol they wanted. The synthetic would be irrelevant cause it's not in there long like you say.
I bet it was pretty exciting to be there in person and hear those 20b's screaming...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought using synthetic oil voided our warranty. To see Syntac as a major sponsor just doesn't seem right. Even if they do break down those engines frequently. Do as I say, not as I do!
