RX8club= Very bad forum???
I swear I am not a troll!
But I found these type of "reviews"??? and it was kinda funny . Because
people on here do give a hard time to someone that asks a question thats been
answered. But it is common sense to search. If I read this before I joined this forum
I would have searched A LOT harder for answers before posting a thread ...
here it is
http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Arch.../msg00004.html
i also dont know if its a repost, didnt find anything....

I am fairly certain that the RX7 forum is much less judgmental than the
RX8 forum, which often slams newbies for asking a question that has
been asked before, even if that question hadn't been asked for nine
months or more. The aforementioned slamming is pretty much what the
first guy described. Being a non-car guy around there is tough. Even
being a car guy around there can be tough if you dare not to agree with
the powers that be.
My local RX8 club did a joint meet with a bunch of 7 owners when the 8
was new. I found that the guys who showed were on average younger than
the 8 owners, which makes sense since it takes some maturity to put up
the dosh for a brand new $30K car. What I also found about them is that
they were quite confident in their knowledge of cars and working on
them (actually they knew scary amounts about the rotary engine. Very
smart kids. I was super impressed). I don't think that they felt the
need impress anyone on a board and maybe that has a little to do with
why the 7 forum is a little better. It's also partly that there is so
little to say about the 8. There are a few people doing FI and at least
one guy doing a nitrous package for the 8, but other than that it's
alot of concentrating on interior trim rattles and reflashes. There
just aren't enough people really breaking down to keep the group from
eating itself.
I find it kind of sad because I find alot of useful stuff on RX8.com,
and I have some real world friends who I have met through it, but any
newbie who gets the response that this poster got sure isn't going to
stick around to see if it gets better. I think that the people who have
the most time to post and speak most loudly often are those with the
least amount to do in the real world, and that probably isn't a good
recipe. It also saddens me that an Admin was the one who insulted him.
That's a failure of site management. Everyone is entitled to ask a
question, and they shouldn't get yelled at just because the question
was either posted ad nauseum six months before they ever heard of the
site, or because the question they asked was dumb to people who know
alot about the car or cars in general. In the end, car forums are there
to exchange information and educate and RX8. com is probably failing to
do that. Sad, sad, sad.
Probably a lot of truth there. My only defence is that the post is exactly three years old - hopefully we have progressed......
We have a site rule about flaming and bashing noobs, but effective or not, the very fact that we needed one speaks volumes.
Something we should probably all work on, mea culpa.

truthfully i agree with the post because i was once there. i started out as a super noob in this rotary community when i first bought the 8 and it was tough. i am not saying that people here werent helpful... in fact many of the members here were super helpful and just some who were asses. anyways i dont mind helping people who needs help because i feel that a forum is what it is all about. i may not know all that much because i still have a lot to learn, but being able to help somebody when they are having hard times and answering their questions makes me feel accomplished.

I'd have to agree, I see a lot more friendly answers on the 1st gen RX-7 board over at rx7club.com then here. But whatever so this is a bit tougher community everyone has still been friendly and such when meeting in person.

its all my fault ... i'm sorry. you may burn me, because I am a witch... do i float?
Really i think it is really the case that there is a more diverse 8 owner population. Sometimes regional colloquialisms are interpreted as negitivity when in fact they are just a normal means of communication... there is also a fact, that ive noticed, that certain members are mean to each other on the forums just as a joke as they know each other irl.

wasnt this whole thing over my conflict with the moron?
yep it was.
the guy was clearly in the wrong and being an ***. i called him on it and then he posted that review. while some of it may be deserved as far as overall forum conduct stealth says i dont feel one iota of a need to take back what i did there.
and the fact that he went bitching elsewhere and got people to "side" with him just shows how necessary it is to understand both sides before passing judgment about something or commenting.
for instance
"
which if the person had read the forum would know we, and I personally since this started with me, spend an incredible amount of time educating and sharing.
this guy was simply a moron and an *** and he proved himself to be when he started telling everyone how much smarter he was than everyone and about the degrees he had.

yeah here's his original complaint that started that discussion there
note his condescension to forums with smiley's :rolleyes"
I posted one message on this forum, asking about when the 2006's were
coming out (now I know around June). The Administer of the forum
called me a "moron". One of the other members posted a message saying
"HaHa, you got called a moron". Real nice people. At any rate, I
complained to Jim O' Sullivan, President and CEO of Mazda North
American Operations, about the punk "administrator" of the forum. I
don't think an Internet RX-8 forum which features these kinds of
insulting, demeaning insults, directed at Mazda's customers, are in the
best interests of Mazda Corp. But I don't know whether Mazda Corp. can
do anything about it, either. This is one of those forums where they
serve you with a dictionary-full of "smiley faces" (emoticons) that you
can tack on to your messages, just to add a little "pizazz" (or is that
spelled with an 's' instead of a 'z'?) to your post. Sickening.

Peasant 1: Are there? Oh well, tell us.
Sir Bedevere: Tell me. What do you do with witches?
Peasant 1: Burn them.
Sir Bedevere: And what do you burn, apart from witches?
Peasant 1: More witches.
Peasant 2: Wood.
Sir Bedevere: Good. Now, why do witches burn?
Peasant 3: ...because they're made of... wood?
Sir Bedevere: Good. So how do you tell whether she is made of wood?
Peasant 1: Build a bridge out of her.
Sir Bedevere: But can you not also build bridges out of stone?
Peasant 1: Oh yeah.
Sir Bedevere: Does wood sink in water?
Peasant 1: No, no, it floats!... It floats! Throw her into the pond!
Sir Bedevere: No, no. What else floats in water?
Peasant 1: Bread.
Peasant 2: Apples.
Peasant 3: Very small rocks.
Peasant 1: Cider.
Peasant 2: Gravy.
Peasant 3: Cherries.
Peasant 1: Mud.
Peasant 2: Churches.
Peasant 3: Lead! Lead!
King Arthur: A Duck.
Sir Bedevere: ...Exactly. So, logically...
Peasant 1: If she weighed the same as a duck... she's made of wood.
Sir Bedevere: And therefore...
Peasant 2: ...A witch!
sorry, when reading your post i thought of this monty python scene right off the bat

such a bad site that some of us that sold the car long ago still frequent the site.....not only for friends but to help out n00bs in thier progress.....i dont disagree at all with what happened to said scientist troll....and if he were such the educated man he should be used to research and not being spoon fed......aside from that anger management might be needed

Meh. He got called a moron for asking a question, when if the answer had been a snake it've bit him.
The problem isn't the forum. The problem is that he has a huge chip on his shoulder about being smarter than everyone else. How *dare* anyone call him a moron!

People are people. Some have good days and others have bad. You have to be a bit more tough skinned when it comes to forums and understand that sometimes what people type may be taken the wrong way.
#19
I find it funny that the complaint appears in a newsgroup. This forum does have an edge to it, but nothing compared to usenet traditions.
I do think it's improper to call someone a moron, though. The correct usage is to say "What a maroon!"

a lot of the problems stem from the new registered users not following forum rules..many of which strongly suggest that new users read the faq's and stickies and search before posting questions that may be all too common.
then there are people who are new to this site (like myself) that have had experience on other forums. i understand the need to search and read the faq's and such. i'm a moderator over on rx7club and an admin on www.ohiorotaries.com and i am constantly weeding through threads started by new users that have been asked dozens of times. i usually just post or pm them the faq or sticky that explains their problem. the first post i ever made on rx7club was asking what types of oil guys are using..yeah you have to put you flame suit on just for thinking about that question..we understand why the flaming happens and it may just be an initiation phase to some...
the veterns of the sites often easialy get fed up with reading the same silly or all to easy or common questions and that vein in the forehead begins to swell. one can only take so much of what i call "the wizard of oz syndrome"..seen that a zillion times..and finally someone snaps...chain reaction happens and another vetern throws his hands around a newb's neck...you guys see where i am getting here..
i have not been mistreated here and i think this forum has a lot to offer to every rotary owner and dare i say prospective rotary owner..this site helped me make the decision to buy an RX-8.. getting back on track, it doesnt matter what site you go to or what forum, if you dont search or dont read, you will be placed in the mouths of the site veterns, chewed up like a tought piece of steak and spat out onto the floor for the one eyed, one testie'd chiwawa to choke on and then maybe just maybe someone will not take offense to the chewing and understand the reasoning behind the maddness.

I usually just repeat what I know even if I know the answer can be found with a more rigorous search. It'll make it all the more easy for the answer to pop up in a search, be it here or even on google. I figure if you are not going to answer the question asked, theres no point in responding with flames, might as well just ignore it and go about your business. Unless you are going to find and paste the relevant thread for the person, yelling at the person to search doesn't mean much. A lot of times I have failed to find something I needed through search because I just plain did not have the vocabulary to find what I was looking for (It's hard to search for something you don't know the name of, or something everyone else calls one thing but you call by another name). So I have asked my fair share of questions on this forum, but I don't think anyone has given me a hard time for it (which I feel very fortunate for). But in turn for having my questions answered so readily, I pay it forward whenever I can. We all have to start somewhere. I did not know a damned thing about cars until I joined this site, and now I've put in my own turbo kit, which may not be much to a lot of the veterans here, but its a far cry from where I used to be.
SOOOOO.... this site rules.
"Is it a crime to try and learn the truth? Is it a sin to search for those things which you fear? My purpose in this world is knowledge, and the dissemination of it. And it is I who is to restore the fruits of my labors to the entire world. Wake up! Don’t be afraid of knowledge! Humans who loose the capacity to think become creatures whose existence has no value. Think, you humans who are split into two worlds! Unless you want the gulf between humans to expand into oblivion, YOU MUST THINK!"
