Oh I'm sure that's true. I'm just saying there's not really a good reason to bash people when you can ignore them. Not responding takes less effort than a response of any kind.

You don't have to. Nobody has to. The guys who are helpful and answer lots of questions wear themselves out by taking on too much. If you see a question like that and it irks you, consider just letting it lie. Someone who's just learned the answer will be happy to share their newfound knowledge.

Downside is that a fair number of "search you noob moron" cracks have led to some pretty funny side exchanges, and we'd lose that.

Figures zoom44 was at the root of the problem

BTW he (zoom44) has helped me many times through PMs and when I first joined the site (under username dmh in Jan 2003).

This is a great forum and resource for the rotary community. It is too bad this guy got butt hurt and felt the need to whine about it. It is too bad we had a part in turning him away.

That whole thing is bullshit. I wasn't here when that happened since I just came to this forum 6+ months ago and I was a total noob to RX-8s too having just bought one and it was my first rotary. That being said, I lurked and searched my *** off before posting a bunch of stupid questions. I was respectful to the people here who knew what they were talking about and ended up learning a LOT about rotaries and the RX-8. (although I obviously have a lot more to learn)

This is by far the best car forum I've ever been on, and actually one of the better forums for any topic. People get a bit grumpy about reposted questions, but it enforces a clean(ish) layout so people actually can search for questions and get answers. I think the guy who posted that "review" needs to shake the sand out of his vagina and quit crying.

Oh and the emoticons rule.

As a noob, I can agree with the article to an extent, but this site definitely has members who are more than willing to help with noob questions such as, "How do you walk?", or "What color is the sky?" in terms of car knowledge. You definitely have to have a tough skin on this site, or you won't last. It's kind of like tough love.

So in short, as a noob, I'd have to tell the writer of the article to man up and grow some *****. Even if you encounter a huge ******* on this site, there's a strong chance you can learn a lot from that person if you're respectful and presistant. Also, if the one complaint the rotary heads on this site have is to 'search' before asking, then would it be so hard to do so?

rx8club is best used by first reading for about a month. Once you've gotten up to date, you can jump on in and have no issues.

the only ones that have issues are the ones with attitude problems and think people should spoon feed them. I sometimes help them, sometimes I say something sarcastic. It depends on the OP and how easy the answer would have been to locate.

Before you say reading for a month is asking too much - that is exactly what I did. I wasn't sure if I was going to buy a rx8. I wanted to read up before making the purchase, and it wasn't till I decided to buy the car that I registered. So even back in April 2004, there was more than enough information here to make an informed decision.

Yep same here. I registered when I became interested in the rx-8 and read and searched the board for a few months before posting.

I joined after owning an rx8 for 4 years and was interested in doing some modding. I did read up as much as I could, so perhaps my questions never warranted a noob bash, but even when I asked a question where there was already a thread about, most people were kind enough to direct me to the appropriate thread. Most often the reason I couldn't find the thread I'm looking for is I was searching for the wrong word or term.

I'm impatient. I order stuff and pay extra for next day delivery.

For me to wait a whole month is only possible because I didn't know what the RX-8 was or anything about it. Had I known about it earlier, I'd have been on the preorder list. As luck would have it, I found out about the RX-8 in March 2004, and after test driving it 3 or 4 times, decided I must have it even though I didn't need another car.

i was a rotary n00b once. I was flamed several times over the course of two years. Learn to search, read, and ask questions in the right place and you'll find out what you're looking for.

You live and you learn right? This april will be 5 years since ive had my rx8. I've learned alot of responsibility having this car and I look foward to growing older with my 8 until I can't fix it anymore

I'm a post ***** on every forum I'm a member of. I lurked for maybe a week here before making a post and I think it was in the Tit Gray Owners thread, or one of the regional "I saw you threads".

Then the AP thread surfaced and it's been ***** to the wall ever since.

This forum can be very biased against newer members, those with few posts or those who are not "part of the gang" here.

When I first got my 8 in early 07 I started posting here more, even though I had lurked since about 05. Of course I am no newbie regardless of the status of my user account, having been deeply involved in rotary engines since 1999 and being a national builder of hundreds of engines since 2002.

Now...I did not receive a warm welcome here. I came bearing technical information which was not well received and was in fact disputed by some here with less experience than myself. Posts and threads were deleted that I had posted in because the ""powers that be" did not agree with what I had to say. I very nearly said "eff" this forum and just leave, but I decided to give it another go. Eventually I personally spoke with a couple of members and decided to stick around, and things softened up after about a month...since then I have been more accepted and welcomed, and not questioned much/at all.

Now...if someone of my position in the rotary community can receive such a shitty welcome...imagine how the general member/true first time rotary owner perceives this place?

Half the time I can barely stand to read the "rx8 general" section because of the responses you guys dish out. Sure, there are some stupid questions asked. But you guys don't have to be such grade-A douchecanoes with your responses, either. Not everyone all the time, but a lot of the people, a lot of the time, are guilty.

I am no longer a part of rx7club, but for years I dispensed free, timely, accurate technical information there. And there were a lot of freaking IDIOTS that came in and posted the same bullshit over and over, day after day, for years at a time. I very rarely if EVER told someone to search. I would either just ignore it, give a link to an FAQ or writeup specific to the question (I wrote several myself) or just post a quick statement like "this question gets asked hundreds of times yearly, a search would have yeilded your answer...short answer though, is blah blah blah...".

Something to consider...you never know who you are posting against on the internet. I have learned this over the years. Sometimes the guys who ask the most STUPID ****, fail to spell correctly, etc. are the smartest people in person. Or sometimes they have the most money to spend and later they would come to me for parts or work when I thought they were only a waste of time.

There have been other times when I have contacted people selling cars or parts, and I have done it from alternate accounts so they did not realize who I was. It is amazing how differently people will treat you when they know you and are your friend, versus when they think you are just some random new guy. I have emailed/pm'd sellers and been talked to like **** and offered terrible deals, and later when I let them know who I am, they apologize and offer me a much better deal.

Bottom line...a lot of people are incredibly ballsy or dickheaded in their "internet" persona, and are quiet little bitches in person. I cannot count the number of times I have "gotten to know" someone via their online postings, and then met them in real life and found myself wondering (to myself) "is this the same dude that talks all that **** online?". We are all guilty of it to some degree. But lease don't be one of those that take it overboard by talking down to everyone else on the internet who is not as e-badass as you. At least try to maintain your normal attitude and civility online and treat others like you might want to be treated if you were them.

There is a time to call people out for being dumbasses, and someone's first thread (questionable or not) is not it. There is a time to offer genuine assistance and advice, and I would say a new member/poster's first couple of threads is that time. Now if they keep on doing stupid ****? Nail their *** to the wall without reservation.
