I suggested something similar to combat spammers...

https://www.rx8club.com/suggestions-archive-212/first-post-approval-145828/

I guess it could be used to fight off stupid noob behaviour too

There will always be ways around a system for those that want to stray. Maybe a minimum word count, or approach as you suggested. Whatever it is, it has to be worthwhile in reducing (removing?) newbie posts in the main threads. Pointless threads can be removed by admins and newbie thread count re-set too.

lol zoom called him a moron lol. then he replys

"Did I misunderstand you, or did you just call me a "moron"? It is difficult to believe that a rude undesirable moron retard imbecile dolt, such as yourself, would be an "ADMINISTRATOR" to a forum such as this.

I am a scientist, you ******, I have degrees in the physical sciences, and I can understand quantum mechanics, quantum electrodynamics, and relativity. In contrast, there is one and only one word that describes you. That word is "punk"

so with all of his degree's, he still couldnt figure how to research what comes with a 06. lol

Yeah, we do that on the RX7club.com... works okay... the biggest problem is then the newbie is frustrated at not getting into the section that he or she wants so then they just post ***** in the newbie section until they can get out of kindergarten and ask their same question in a technical section and get flamed for it.

Right, which is what I figured would happen, so it shouldnt be ONLY post count. Post count should be only 1 part of the equation. I think join date will help, so people need to be a member for some predesignated amount of time before posting or something. That way some random guy with a question that he doesn't want to work for the answer can't merely join the forum and start a bunch of random threads in 5 minutes.

Though there are pros and cons to that approach. Such a system might force a guy with an emergency or time sensitive situation with a legitimate hard question to wait too long.

There is a conversation going on here. When new people join, they are jumping in in the middle of the conversation. They can either read up on what they've missed, or ask everyone else to stop and spoon-feed them what they've missed. If they choose the latter, well, they will take heat for it. Human nature. This isn't unique to rx8club.com.

Most noobs will simply either read up on what was posted before making their first post, or take "search noob" to heart when they do post and learn to find things for themselves. Not a big deal, really.

It's not the average noob who gets so upset, it's the asshats like the guy that made this whole thread happen. He could have done some basic research into his question, but he decided to make others do the work for him. But the real problem is, he couldn't take it when he was called on this and decided to go whine in another forum to get sympathy.

I wonder how guys like him get on in the real world. Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone takes heat for it from time to time. To get so upset over something like this, makes me think he has larger issues.

This board can be harsh, but by and large it's mostly teasing, and often funny. It isn't personal, really. I guess some people just can't get past that and learn to laugh at themselves and accept their mistakes.

I've always been a proponent of only having the "new thread" button on the "search results" page...

no kidding

The guys on here give too much ****, I have been over at brickboards for the last 5 years and have learned alot and shared just as much.

This group cares too much about how their car looks to the ladies, I for one bought the rx8 for fun. I haven't asked any questions here for the slam factor.

If one wants to pick up the ladies I will let them borrow my 1987 volvo 240 station wagon and one of my english bulldogs. Any one up for the challenge?

On Arsenal-Mania they have a lobby section where newbies have to be promoted by an administrator to gain full forum member privileges. Honestly I find that would be a pretty good system, though it would probably mean more work for the mods. As it is, I feel the General Topics area of this board can function as the newbie section. There is a lot less flaming and general newbness in the Tech sections.

So, this thread prompted me to see when it was that I lost my tolerance for "newbs".
Apparently, it was my very first post (under the screen name "Maniac") in October of 2003.

It only got worse from there...

(Though, my very next post was explaining how the ignition signals work, so I get a pass.)

apparently my first outspoken post was around #17 in the (then pending) metra kit thread. A bunch of members got bent out of shape when I said how unimpressed I was that there weren't any pictures.

Nevermind the fact that at least every other post prior to mine stated none were available yet... the other half were complaints similar to mine.

Man, talk about a bunch of sensitive little girls... the whole lot of ya!

I'm just trying to get a feel for what all is going to be offered. FWIW, he did use words like plug and play, universal...

But I found these type of "reviews"??? and it was kinda funny . Because
people on here do give a hard time to someone that asks a question thats been
answered. But it is common sense to search. If I read this before I joined this forum
I would have searched A LOT harder for answers before posting a thread ...

here it is

http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Arch.../msg00004.html

i also dont know if its a repost, didnt find anything....
Its very bad cuz we dont have a no0b section so everyone goes around bashing into everyone that has a small post count just cuz they think they know it all. I mean after all theres not much to this car and in short not to many changes over the years. Cant we all just get along?

Yea.....we are bad....very bad. Are you kidding me? Have these people never visited any other forum on the internet. People are people no matter what the subject matter is, thus you have to take the good and the bad and simply move on. Some people join clubs just to start up sh*t. Do we need more of this to go on?

I like the part about Zoom being a 18 year old that one of the posters knows personally. And it's quite funny how the people responding to him just jumped in without even bothering to read what he originally posted. Oh how I love usenet. I used to be addicted to those things when I was in school.

You're still not an E-Gangsta? How unfortunate, I wanted someone to see my crib.
